About 18 to 20 years ago I purchased the aluminium Tippmann Boss, I broke the gears so many times I told myself NEVER TO BUY THE TIPPMANN AGAIN, NEVER to recommend it to anyone, the second time I broke the machine it could not be fixed so I had to send it to them from UK all the way to Indiana USA, when I got the machine back guess what I BROKE IT AGAIN, inferior parts. I had to sell it as a broken machine and accept the loss. You people at TIPPMANN cost me a bunch of money... I am buying the Cowboy Outlaw, Farid Mehr, knife maker

we mainly sew leather wallet and bags, using soft leather, sometimes we sew veg tanned leather knife sheaths by hand

yes many leather workers just hand stitching knife sheaths, but sewing machine is much fast, with OUTLAW leather hand stitcher, you can obtain "stitch by stitch", for great sewing quality. Hopefully you can get one in not long future!!

When I use GA5-1 Chinese leather sewing machine, my biggest problems when sewing leather is the slipping (if sew two pieces of leather together), that's why I updated with Juki TSC-441 machine, maybe your hand stitching machine with same problem of slippery.

Thanks for your question! GA5-1 is clone of Singer 45K or Adler 105 leather sewing machine, these sewing machines are drop feed (feed leather by feed dog only) which is not good for professional leather workers, because of the problem of leather splitting. CowBoy CB105 is a bit better, because of its reverse stitch, but it still drop feed machine, we mainly recommend to beginner leatherworking. CowBoy OUTLAW hand operated leather sewing machine is needle feed sewing machine. "Needle Feed" means the needle will through multiple layers of leather, and feed them togeother. So it is impossible to slip the leathers. Hopeflly this information will help you a bit!!

Jim, it will depend on the leather type, 2mm vegetable tanned leather is ok, but for soft upholstery leathre, minimum 4 mm.

Is there a video on setting up and fine tuning the machine? The one in the store operated smoothly but the hand brake for the pressure foot on the machine I bought is sloppy and sounds like the cable is stretching. I figure it’s a adjustment that’s needed but I wanted some guidance before going at it myself.

Why wouldn’t you burry the needle before turning the project?

Put needle in down position, can fix the leather when turning it. If you do not burry the needle, the leather will move when turning it, and miss the previous stitch hole, can you see that?

It could be a good exercise way to improve your muscle!!! It is good machine for leather crafts & hobbies. If you are to sew over 1 hour everyday, maybe motorized leather sewing machine is better, such as CB3500 and CB4500.

If you just want to remove this problem, you can consider to buy some speical sewing machine for your Juki TSC-441. Thanks, I lighten the presser foot pressure, got bad stitch, the major mark on leather is the feed dog. I got idea from leatherworker.net and purcased the leather feed dog that no teeth on it, hopefully it can help me out.

@@Stang94Red YES i bought the cowboy outlaw sewing machine and LOVE it, I am using size 350 thread and a 26 needle. ONE problem i found very soon was that the pull leaver wont stay tight, (Bad design for securing it) When it loosens it wears on the key and keyway, (Severly) I reinstalled the arm screws with red lock tight and drilled a roll pin thru the leaver and shaft. I have made several Holsters with it now.
