@@allensaunders449 it would have been rare 20 years ago because parents would have told a child off for doing it once. Now parents let their children run riot... Now they appear to be more interested in being their kids best friends than in being a good parent.

Actually people were saying this exact same thing 20 years ago. And, much like you, those people were also absolutely convinced that 20-year prior, this behavior also would have been “rare”. Every generation thinks that later generations of kids are out of control because the parents are not “training” or disciplining them correctly or that society in general has gone to hell in a hand basket. Anyway, as someone who has lived through more than 6 decades I can tell you that these types of things were just as prevalent back in the 60’s when I was a kid as they are today. For example when I was 11 I had a school friend spend the night in my tree house and he decided to sneak over the back fence at night and into the neighbors yard where he proceeded to piss on their clean laundry which was hung out to dry. He also peeped through the cracked open shower window as their teenaged daughter was taking a shower. He thought this was all hilariously funny but it completely disgusted me. I remember another time out on my bike when I was about 9 and I ran into a group of older kids on bikes. They asked me to join them and then one of the first things they did was sneak into a gas station restroom while a women was in there and one guy climbed up on the sink and looked over the side of the stall to watch her pee. After she started yelling at him the group took off and hid inside a brand new house that was 95% completed and which was not locked up. Then they proceeded to start vandalizing the place and even smashed the toilet into pieces. They all thought it was funny but I was disgusted at their behavior and so I told them I had to go home. Anyway, I could tell you stories like this all day, including some pretty disgusting behavior from adults at the time. By the way, if you think that having well behaved children is simply a matter of more discipline and less free reign then all I can say is that you don’t know the first thing about the human mind. I’m afraid the problem is infinitely more complicated than that. When children behave badly it has nothing to do with how they have or have not been taught to behave, nor does it have to do simply with a lack of discipline. Unfortunately however I do not have time to get into it here.
