More than a power trip, I think Jerry does it this way because it helps him in his other businesses. He enters a business meeting with Ford or Oil and Gas and him being the cowboys guy disarms people for a sales pitch. They go to dinner afterwards and he can impress them talking about why or how this or that happened in the team.

We last won a Super Bowl in late January 1996. Just a little over one year away from the 30 year mark, which is depressing. I remember as a kid the heartbreak of losing to the Steelers twice, the joy of beating the Broncos, the three NFC Championship game losses of the early 80s, and the great dynasty years of the 90s. I still watch because I’m a fan, but even when we won 12 times three years in a row, it was like waiting for the other shoe to drop come playoff time. As long as Jerry is in charge/alive, doesn’t seem like there’s hope.

Point is I cant think of a better tight end coach. They are both devoted Cowboys and JJ respects them as much as they respect him. If Troy was to get hired as GM (or any legit GM got hired) I'd love to see them hire Michael Irvin as some sort of coach or just to be around the team and have his energy in the building. As great as the roster was in those SB years and as amazing as the triplets (and so many other players) were as football players I think the contribution that Irvin brought to the team in terms of energy and pure desire to win is vastly under appreciated. That Michael Irvin 'fire/passion' is EXACTLY what is lacking from the Cowboys organization. They've had lots of great players since the triplets and they've won lots of games BUT have they ever had that winning feeling about them?? Have fans ever truly believed they were a legit threat to win it all?? I mean actually believed not wishing/wanting???

I agree that Troy would be an amazing candidate to be the GM. I agree he'd likely be willing to it for significantly less $ than the 18mil he's currently making. I believe Jerry would hire him. I don't believe Jerry would EVER actually allow anyone, even Troy, to be a true traditional GM and have full control over football operations other than in name only. So I don't believe it will ever happen. My prediction is if someway, somehow Jerry 'agreed' to hire Troy and give him 'full GM powers' Jerry would still be butting in all the time and still doing press conferences, saying stupid things and doing his usual idiocy and Troy would be frustrated and gone in a year or two. I've heard Troy say in interviews many times that when he retired it was as much about the way Jerry ran the team and the useless 'yes man' coaches that he kept hiring and that there was no accountability as it was about his injuries/concussions. Basically he retired out of frustration and sadly this would be no different. I get that the star players like the triplets etc love Jerry for what he allowed/enabled them to accomplish in the years that Jimmy was there and that he helped them become wealthy but I bet they all have some deep frustrations and anger about what he did to the later part of their careers with the way he miss managed the team after Jimmy. Imagine what their careers could have been with competent management/coaching after Jimmy??? Very frustrating as a life long fan!!

It doesn't matter if we win, lose or draw the remaining 3 games of the season, winning only worsens the draft, and losing means getting one better player, but after the draft, it won't even matter, we'll still be a least 3 or more years from being a legitimate contender, this team has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese, our run defense is as porous as a sponge, and #4 is unreliable in games that matter, not to mention those pesky hamstrings or the fact that 9 years in still working on footwork, although the left side of the oline seems to be a positive, so we'll have what the 6th 7th pick in the draft

Jerry can call himself the GM all he wants but the truth is that he is just an owner who everyone in the building, with actual jobs, have to explain everything to him in a way he understands so that he can approve it, and that is the organization's bottleneck that he supposedly wants to avoid by appointing himself the GM. At the end of the day, GM is just a title and the rest is a chain of command. If he's not accountable then he is not the GM. Stephen - a multi millionaire - believes you should give up your salary to be “ allowed “ the privilege to play for the Cowboys. A football player wants to WIN and to make money. I would rather win with another team. The Jones’ are far more interested in making money - than winning. The interests of the owners and the players are not aligned. As long as the Jones’ own this team - you’re almost 100% guaranteed the Cowboys will WATCH the Super Bowl games from their sofas.
