Good sequence. Pretty similar to what I use too but sometimes I start off with the howl.

I did that for a while then realized I’ll spook cats usually from the get go, if I start with a distress it gives me a 5-6 minute window for a close cat or fox to investigate

What if they don’t come in to distress but respond to interrogation howl. kick back to distress?

If they howl back at all, I wait at least 10 minutes, you’d be surprised how curious they can be, if they come in from afar, hit the mouse squeak quietly and watch what happens
