If she's not about to have pups, it's possible that the toys ARE her "pups" and she's protecting them because the instinct to breed is so strong. She might have chosen "substitute pups" if that's the case. Guess time will tell.

I have never seen someone be able to walk the fine line of domestication & wild. She is wild, but she has accepted you & other members of your family into hers. Very difficult task, 99.9% of animal experts would fail. K9s feed off emotion, & your just being yourself gains her respect. Her bringing you birds & other food proves she is still wild yet has accepted you with respect.

This is really fascinating. I have a regular dog (border collie) and she also changes her demeanor in her dens. She’s got a few that she’s dug in our yard and I think she thinks of her crate in the house as one as well. She doesn’t like for anyone to be around in her dens and while I doubt she’d ever try to harm me, she has warned me to leave her alone when she’s in them (soft growls, showing teeth). She was found in the woods when she was young so I sort of think she went back to her ancestral roots to survive on her own. That being said, she still loves a soft couch and bed. Lol
