Happy Black Friday, Jenn! Your faux wood grain turned out fantastic!!! That looks like it takes a lot of practice and patience to master that technique. Had to laugh at your "Do not wear cable knit sweater ... in November in Phoenix" remark. Dani and I wore Christmas sweaters and snow boots and shot our opening in front of a blazing fire about 2 weeks ago when it was still in the 80's. (Felt like it was the middle of summer again...haha). Aloha, Sherry

The faux walnut looks perfect, and tge table is lovely! Thank You for sharing your ideas, techniques, and supplies you use. BTW: good ol' table salt is great at scrubbing all sorts of hard to remove "stuff" off of hands, and it will leave your hands extremely soft.

Lonna thank you so much for saying that! I love doing faux bois and this was my first intricate walnut. Happy to share! If you give it a try let me know, I'd love to see what you do! Great tip on salt, I'll have to moisturizer after that though 🥰

The faux walnut is spot on! Never heard of a check roller before, but it was just the thing! Love the entire piece, looks very sturdy and pretty at the same time. Well done!!!

Thank you so much! I usually use the check roller to create denim patterns but crossed my fingers here. So glad it worked, I didn't want to have to draw in all those lines by hand. 😬 Hopefully I have this a whole new life. 🥰

Awesome! Thanks so much, Avril! This one was a while ago but I'm sure about a few products. Faux Effects SetCoat in Chamois (base paint and final paint on the legs), Modern Masters Platinum glaze, and I used universal tints from Golden to create each of the shades. Hope that helps!

Beautiful faux finish😎 where do we find a check roller and other products used? I don't see any info listed on that roller. I'd love to try it with Heirloom Traditionas All in One Paint gel stains to see if it works on those products I have already on hand. Thank you for sharing this whole process. Thanks to our Austrailian friend Sarah at Four Fourth Five Designs for mentioning you I've found inspiration right here in AZ!
@CopperCactusDIY2 жыл бұрын
Sadly, the one I used in this vid isn't widely available anymore. You can try on ebay. It's a Ralph Lauren check roller. I've had it a long time and love it still! It works best in either of 2 ways - 1. To add a thick bodied medium (glaze, paint, gel stain like I did here) or 2. To remove a thin bodied medium (to leave the pattern from the roller so the base coat shows through. I can't wait to hear if you get one and start experimenting! Have fun! Thank you so much, Suzanne 🥰

Do you have a shopping list of the products you used? so to get a faux walnut finish I need 3 glazes right?
@CopperCactusDIY Жыл бұрын
I've done anything from a single process up to 5 to get the type of graining I'm looking for. It's all kinda trial and error and I HIGHLY suggest making a sample board first to get the hang of the technique without going right in on a wall or furniture. Get the best glaze you can afford (I'm partial to Faux Effects and Modern Masters but I've used Behr and it's not bad). Also get some universal tints in any shade of the primary colors plus Vandyke Brown and black. Then you can custom mix any color you like. This one was a 3 glaze process but like I said it's mostly giving things a try. Hope you have fun with it, Toni! Thanks for watching!
