Im 100% sure that cap's shield is just part of the card Captain America Sam Wilson, its not its own card! Its like the broodlings from brood or squirrels from squirrel girl and so on.Or much rather the infinity stones from thanos, the only difference being that the shield is already in play because it starts on the board as mentioned in Sam wilsons card description and that sam wilson is not guaranteed to start in your hand. And yes I do believe the shield will interact with the normal captain america card as well so its probably gonna be a thing similar to Doom 2099 and Doom.

I appreciate the game design discussion. It is something that I also muse about with a friend of mine from time to time. It is one of the ways I "use" my degree while not actively engaging in that field. A lot of your ideas sound very cool. Equipping in the hand is intriguing. They have already shown, and even commented, on Red Hulk being the first card in Snap that reveals itself to your opponent. If you had to equip in your hand and reveal the equipment to your opponent before you could play it, then you could add some interesting counterplay/mind game options without going beyond the current scope of the game. In general, cards that lock you into a specifically named card aren't very good, unless you have a whole sweet of support around that card name or multiple cards with that name. It, essentially, turns it into its own archetype, which are generally better in game feel and playability. Doom 2099 is a great example of this. It supports what is now a Doom(bot) archetype. One pet design I've been hoping they create is an On Reveal card similar to Dracula that is weak to stuff like Shadow King and Shang-Chi.

I get the theming but they should just get rid of that and have a flat RNG to not make it even harder to achieve than it already is if they want that route. Having to not spend energy for a chance at a 2/12 that isn't boosted by High Evo directly doesn't seem worth it😅

Equiptment infinity gauntlet Just the text: “your stones store here” and whenever you play a stone it moves into the gauntlet. Saves them from being destroyed, you get the on reveal and ongoing effect. And you have more space to play the cards you actually want

If I were to add equipment to the game I’d make them entirely different to cards. You would equip an equipment item to a deck during deck creation and it starts the game on your side of the field (or as a 2 power card on your opponent’s side of the field in terms of the goblin bomb). They take up a spot but are circles instead of rectangles and don’t have a cost and aren’t affected by locations. They’d be weak but have some small synergies and everyone would have access to them, kind of like hero powers in Hearthstone. The infinity gauntlet has 0 power but gets +3 for each infinity stone in that lane. Nico’s staff had 2 power and would give you a random Nico effect as an activate, Agatha’s tome would have 5 power but play cards for you on odd turns. It’s also a great way to add team synergies to the game, like a Fantastic 4 item that gives those cards +2. It would be easy to change the card Sam Wilson creates into an equipment and there could be new cards that interact with equipments and create their own. Activate is a great keyword on equipments, too! Of course they’d still be upgradeable and have variants like cards do, but maybe they don’t have boosters and instead you have to use them and win with them to upgrade them!

I liked your idea until you started the starts in the game part. It would be cool to have equipments that are affecting the cards in your deck. You could equip items to your cards to make them stronger/provide them effects. Like Caps Shield could make a card indestructible but lowers its power by 2

I have 2 ideas. 1: Make it general, thats more of a balance nightmare. 2: Make it character specific. Lets say you have Spiderman and he has 2 equipments you can apply in the deck. Thats 2 ways to refine builds. That could pump new blood into deckbuilding to further refine functionality. Some restriction, like 2 equipments per deck could be needed, but it would be really cool.

I would love more equipment in the game but I would want the hyper specific card references like Cap's Shield (and Doom 2099 sorta) to be very rare. If the Darkhold was released, I don't think it should refer to any of the magicians in particular, it should just have the ability to corrupt cards at the location or something like that.

I think the best way to do equipment cards is you add 2 extra slots to a deck specifically for equipment cards. Then at the start of every game you start with 5 cards instead of the original 4 but only if you have 2 equipment cards added to those slots. Similar to how Arishem gives you that extra energy

There was a guy on Reddit that rework Kang so that when you played him, he would change into one of six different Kang variants and each one had a different ability. Or it might’ve added the variant to your hand. I think that he had changed him to be a lower cost card so that you could get him out early and then his ability would be useful. An interesting idea should be Green Goblin’s Glider. 3 -2, On reveal: attach to a Green Goblin card on the opponents side and add a 0 -1 Pumpkin bomb card to their location if able. Makes the GG more negative and potential clogs the last spot on their side.

A really cool aspect of the game that needs to be added would be categories. They already have experimented with this with the avengers vs x men, Valentine’s Day couples, etc. That way you could have characters interact in more interesting ways. You could have the “worthy” tag, so when mjolnir or stormbreaker are played their abilities affect everyone that is worthy as an example. Idk I found it really fun to come up with teams during those events where you might choose someone who was less optimal, but had synergy with the rest of the team to receive buffs.

If you want to add another layer to possible abilities and tactics, like equipment, you could also put all cards into categories (like Magic, Tech, Mutant and so on), which opens up a whole new slew of abilities, cause then you can have abilities only affecting a certain category, or even an extra or alternative layer, like Hero and Villain. I also think Team Ups would be an interesting idea. Instead of having Rocket Racoon, Groot and Rocket Racoon&Groot, you could play both and they merge into a teamup

The infinity gauntlet. Zero cost must be played the same turn as Thanos 'if all the inifinity stones were played out this match then randomly destroy half the cards on the board except Thanos'. It would effect your side as well but since you usually have a ton of cards played out with Thanos decks (many being low powered stones) this should negatively effect your oppenet more than you.

Pumpkin bomb: give this card +2 power. When it switches sides afflict all other cards here with -1 power. Imagine a red hood equipped with that into a viper on turn 4? I think having equipment cards change a way a card is usually played is a great mechanic as well. Like the pumpkin bombs could be just a straight up buffing card or it makes the switching of sides a more risky but rewarding thing to pull off I think equiping them in your hand would be the way to go as well.

While it may have some less appropriate lyrics for today's standard, I think the moral and the story it tells is truly beautiful. Equipment idea: Thano’s Infinity Gauntlet - Absorbs stones played on field (to declutter board) and takes on combined Power and Abilities of all absorbed stones. Each absorbed stone gives Thanos +2 power (now Thanos can max at 30 power and compete with the power of newer cards). If you want to make it more versatile it could be an “activate” and merge to the highest cost card at a location (so others like Iron Man can wield it)

They should re-work dr. Strange to be a 2 cost version of Nico , him moving something somewhere is sort of a flavor, but it would be way more on theme, have him cast different spells and be the better card that he should be
