These units are in far better condition than when they still ran in normal services back in the 70's . I recall travelling from Albury to Wagga or Culcairn to Wagga on these rail motors. Even with gas heating , freezing in winter and almost crematoriums in summer. In heavy rain some leaked like a rusty roof. The upside is they rarely broke down. Slow? Yes. They had a reasonable top speed actually, 100 kph was quite easy to maintain, but the timetables were done so the rail motors had to go into loops for passing passenger and good trains, so late running was not the fault of the rail motors usually.

Lovely! Goood old 6-71 engines screaming away... Hopefully they get pushed to the edge regularly... That's what them old Detroits prefer to last longer than thier modern brothers. Tough Screamers them Screaming Jimmies. Great train! Great vid!

Wow great video mate. Fantastic to see old trains like this still running passenger services. I must say the cows in Australia must be some size ,what with the cow rack on the roof 'n'all, lol

Thanks Alan. Cows come in all sizes in Oz and you never know just where they will pop out.

In some parts of Australia we need cow catchers to keep pedophiles off the tracks from getting near kids who are riding the trains. Well Im kidding about the cow catchers, but not the other. Historic trains with kids especially attract some very weird people. Even Historic train organisations. Not this one thank Christ.

Great ride on the DMU but funny to see a modern control panel in an old unit . Cheers......Peter .

Yes Peter, I thought the same but I guess as they run on the network, they would have to have the same equipment as every other train. This is on the main line between Sydney and Melbourne

In the UK health and safety would have a great time telling you off for talking to the driver while the train is running.

Only just got the briefest look. Was our "Malcolm In The Middle" CPH #25?

Thanks for that! Cheers! Actually they scrub up quite well in that Brown livery with yellow trim. Sort-of befits their vintage.
