It's 2 breaths (tilt head back) to 30 compressions until advanced help arrives. However, sometimes the person DOES have a pulse, but not breathing. In that case, check the airway then start rescue breathing (one breath every 6 seconds) without compressions. Be sure to begin CPR if the pusle slowed down or stopped. The man in the video only did compressions, because sometimes bystanders are afraid of touching another person's mouth so it's better to AT LEAST do compressions than nothing at all. It's also worth noting that the American Heart Association claims that men have a 23% greater chance of survival over women because bystanders are sometimes afraid to perform CPR on women. Don't worry about touching breasts! It's about saving a life. 🙏❤

The information you provided is a bit outdated. Rescue breaths are only necessary for cardiac arrest caused by not getting oxygen, like drowning. Just chest compressions will do. Rescue breaths won't hurt, but you don't need them most of the time.

@@BrentsCardsAndCoins Hello there, I just renewed my American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification 5 months ago (October 2022) and, yes, your'e right, rescue breaths are necessary for drowning victims. However, a person should get rescue breaths anytime they are not breathing whether drowning or not. It's just that some people are afraid to touch a person's mouth, so those people just give chest compressions because it's better than doing nothing at all. I pray that if I'm ever found not breathing without a pulse that somebody PLEASE give me breaths with chest compressions! 🙏♥

@Historic Workouts® I should have added, do rescue breaths if you are comfortable with it, but there is enough oxygen in the blood to keep the brain oxygenated for 10-12 minutes. Hopefully, help will arrive by then. The reason they don't push rescue breaths is because they don't want someone to die just because someone was uncomfortable doing rescue breaths.

I worry that people automatically think they need to do CPR when a person goes unconscious. My ex-girlfriend had a seizure when we were at a party. We were college students. I had scooped her up when I noticed her acting very odd and was taking her to the couch when she locked up straight as a board in my arms. I instantly went to the ground with her as it’s impossible to carry someone when they do that. She went into the seizure. I instantly looked at my watch to time the seizure because I knew she probably would not be breathing and to let the paramedics know how long the seizure was. I supported her head so she didn’t hurt herself and to try to keep her airway clear. She didn’t take a breath during the seizure or after the seizure for a couple of minutes. Her mouth was still clenched tight so giving her mouth to mouth was impossible although if she persisted to not breathe I could have tried through her nose. I had to push 2 guys away and almost hit one to keep them from pulling me away from her and starting CPR. She still had a heartbeat she just wasn’t breathing. I knew more than likely she would start breathing again. People at the party were screaming at me “your letting her die do CPR”. I loved that girl deeply but I was a boyscout, a police explorer, and had my Professional CPR and Rescue and my 2 person CPR certification through I think the Red Cross. I knew that if I let someone start CPR that it could kill her. Please be aware because someone isn’t breathing it doesn’t mean you need to do CPR. You need to check for a pulse. If they have a pulse do not do chest compressions this will do harm and if they are breathing then they have a pulse trust me on this. Only do chest compressions if you can’t find a pulse and they are not breathing. If the are breathing or have a pulse don’t do chest compressions. If they are breathing but you can’t find a pulse then check for a pulse again because you missed it! Have a great day!

I remember one time I was in the Philippines, back in the mid 80s a navy guy on the USS enterprise. We used to pull in the Subic bay and when we were not working, we would hang out on the olongapoa street. One night it was raining and I was supposed to be heading back to the ship and these girls invited me and out of the rain. It was late at night. I was past curfew and once I went inside this place apartment or what have you they started yelling because there was a girl on the floor and she was having convulsions of some kind and they were yelling at me being a navy guy and I was. I have been drinking by the way to do something. I didn’t know what to do. I slapped her couple times they weren’t very hard slaps, but I did slap her a couple times and she came out of whatever it was that she was going through. They were all happy. Wow! what is that would’ve went in a bad direction and that woman or that girl would’ve died as a result of her condition not my slaps, where would I be today all
