Seen in this video is one of the newest McNeilus Zero Radius, or ZR, automated side loader garbage trucks at the time to come out of CR&R's Lampson yard. Most of the trucks from this batch were purchased for drivers serving Lake Forest & Newport Beach. This truck is collecting recyclables on a fall afternoon almost a year ago. As much as some of you don't like the ZR's since they're new and not like the old trucks everyone loves, I really like them in CR&R's colors and with the side mounted CNG tanks. As seen throughout the video, several people in this area took advantage of the driver by ordering carts that were too small, and putting out extras that could easily fit in the bins without even falling out. Extras are permitted, according to the contract. But that was one of those "lure" tactics added by the city council in 2013 to get residents to want CR&R's service over the city's trash department's at the time. The extras and illogical number & size of carts is the leading result in the Newport drivers clocking out late, and being unable to dump their recycling loads before the MRF closes. Early next year, we will see how things have changed nearly a year and a half following CR&R's takeover from the city's refuse department.
