Seen in this video is one of the newest McNeilus Zero Radius, or ZR, automated side loader garbage trucks at the time to come out of CR&R's Lampson yard. Most of the trucks from this batch were purchased for drivers serving Lake Forest & Newport Beach. This truck is collecting recyclables on a fall afternoon almost a year ago. As much as some of you don't like the ZR's since they're new and not like the old trucks everyone loves, I really like them in CR&R's colors and with the side mounted CNG tanks. As seen throughout the video, several people in this area took advantage of the driver by ordering carts that were too small, and putting out extras that could easily fit in the bins without even falling out. Extras are permitted, according to the contract. But that was one of those "lure" tactics added by the city council in 2013 to get residents to want CR&R's service over the city's trash department's at the time. The extras and illogical number & size of carts is the leading result in the Newport drivers clocking out late, and being unable to dump their recycling loads before the MRF closes. Early next year, we will see how things have changed nearly a year and a half following CR&R's takeover from the city's refuse department.

You are right the people around there never stopped to think about these drivers. CR&R did give alot of options to the city to secure the work but there should be a limit. I guess the whole issue of losing Newports' old collection continues to bother the residents. They got set up with a really good service contract with CR&R though. Oh and that ZR's chrome tanks look pretty badass IMO. Good video brother.

+Raul Frescas - Thanks Raul. The city had all of those things in the RFP, and all haulers had to agree to them. But a number of the council members at the time were stupid and money hungry as their final term in office came to an end. I think they should have made it 3 stream, with up to 4 overage pickups and grace periods following the 3 major holidays. With up to 4 bags per period or pickup. I think it does because they really liked their old crew of city drivers, but a good amount have adjusted to the new generation. One resident for example did complement a driver very well one day back in June.

Agree 100% with what you said about CR&R's new trucks. They look real good. I dig the 320/ZR combo a lot. With all the extras out, I almost wonder if a Curotto would work better on this route. At least a low entry truck with a manual option? Driver made good use of the truck though. That's sad to hear that the drivers can't even make it to the MRF in time. Must slow down their next day even more as well...Crazy to think CR&R's had this contract for quite a while now...seems like yesterday Newport was still running. Nice work Tristen.

+WMmaster626 - Thanks. The company had a Curotto in the warehouse before, but it's been out of service for years. I think they scrapped the idea due to safety issues or something. If they don't make it to the MRF before it closes, they have to go dump the next morning. They have an hour between clocking in and starting their route, but it takes time with traffic, truck inspection, fuel and such.

Nice video. These newbie trucks sure aren't the way they used to make them. Whenever I hear CR&R, I immediately associate the company with all the 310's (like what Mike used to film) and White GMCs (have you checked out my latest upload?). I personally don't favor ZRs too much, I guess because WM has overused them in many parts of SoCal, plus there is too much footage already of them on YT lol, not to say I don't appreciate this footage! Really like the design of the fuel tank along with the body on the driver side. Great work!

+SoCalGarbageTrucks - Thanks. WM's ZRs are fucking ugly compared to EDCO's or CR&R's. Valley Vista's aren't too appealing with the only difference being a yellow cab. But I would have liked to see theirs' on CCCs since that's what they bought with the Gomez trucks. The Perris yard still buys Autocars I think, if they don't get everything that the Lampson yard rids of first.

+WMmaster626 - Too bad they didn't make their way to Cypress. I was really looking forward to seeing them down here. The Peterbilt in their yellow doesn't appeal to me much.

Really don't hate this truck like I thought I would. CR&R made a made move buying ASLs with so many extras out IMO. They'd have been way better off buying stand up drive M/A or ever a Curotto. Glad to see so many residents *choose* separate recycling (eliminating a lot of contaminates being it's optional) and the rest still going to a MRF. You get both quality and quantity of recycling. Though it is a shame to hear they had to dump the clean recycling at the dump (dirty MRF?) if they don't make it in time.

+Garbage Trucks AZ - No, they go and dump at the actual MRF (corporate) the following morning. Just takes a little more time in the mornings though before they start their route. The way I see the recycling, I like how many chose to separate at home. Some also did but don't have a big enough size or quantity and only recycle the basics rather than every possible thing (plastic bags, pudding cups, foil etc.)

Nice video! Always have enjoyed Mcneilus ZR's. Where is Lampson?

+Garbage Truck Photography - Thanks. Lampson is in Garden Grove, down the street from corporate. It's given the name because of the address & street it's located. Orange, Newport Beach, Tustin, Lake Forest, and now La Habra come out of that yard.

What’s the point of getting 3 32 gallons, when getting a 96 gallon you can fit the same amount but in 1 bin? I wonder how many bins cr&r has gave out to the city of Newport Beach?

Awesome! ZRs on recycle is pretty fun to watch in my opinion. Wow these guys must get a lot of overtime then due to the carts and everything. What happens when they can't dump before the MRF closes?

I don't really understand your description. Why did the residents order small carts and put out extras? Was it cheaper than a larger cart?
@94tristen_thetrashman
@94tristen_thetrashman 9 жыл бұрын
+trashmonster26 - The city promised unlimited carts of any size for free, optional recycling, pull-out service for disabled, unlimited bulky items, sharps pickup, and e-waste pickup. All just to get the residents to favor automated collection over the city's old manual collection. So, residents just took advantage of everything, not considering their drivers' job. I really hope that the city considers changing everything to a fully-automated, 3-stream collection in the future.

+Sanitation94 I see, so you're saying that the residents were opposed to automated collection and the city had to jump through hoops and offer all these unlimited perks to the program just to get the resident's approval?
@94tristen_thetrashman
@94tristen_thetrashman 9 жыл бұрын
+trashmonster26 - Yes. But it was mostly about the city contracting the service out to a private hauler.
