Thanks for posting the video. When you use the bypass, you are filling the entire hose with contaminated water. A 50-foot hose contains about a gallon of water, so when you want to use the filtered water, you will need to flush out the contaminated water first, otherwise you will be spraying it on your car. When you turn the bypass back on, filtered water does not immediately start pouring out. You need to clear out the contaminated water, which will take about a minute (going through your filter). That Ryobi pressure washer sprays about 1.2 gallons per minute. If it takes about a minute to spray the entire car, why not just use the filtered water for everything and avoid the added expense of that hookup?
@atouchofhutchad Жыл бұрын
You could do that, it just helps the filters to last longer if you use the clean water for the final rinse. A thorough final rinse is necessary to rinse away the contaminated water. Also, the TDS meter is helpful to know that you are getting completely clean water.

When you are not using it, how would you maintain the DI water system? Is it okay to have the water sit there for 2~3 weeks without using it? (because normally I wash my car about twice a month). Or you have to dry the resin?
@atouchofhutchad20 күн бұрын
@@hyde4never that’s a good question. Maybe a good question for Spotless Systems. I use mine often so I don’t run into that problem. I suppose you could tear it down each time and get as much water out as possible or run it once a week. I think the only real concern would be mold so as long as that didn’t form you would probably be ok. I really hoped this helped. But really, reach out to Spotless Systems, they are very helpful.

Could also connect Y splitter to wall, attach one hose to it for unfiltered water to use for initial rinse, and attach second hose to filtration system for final rinse. Would need a second splitter to join hoses at pressure washer. Setup would eliminate mixing of filtered and unfiltered water in hose... pressure washer will still have some water mixing 😊
@gothops1543 ай бұрын
Is it worth to pay $75 for this accessory rather than make on your own? Do you just need the y splitter, extra bypass hose material, two connectors to connect bypass to Y splitters? Do you also need some additional adaptor to then connect the y hose into/out from the filter?
@atouchofhutchad3 ай бұрын
It was worth it for me to pay the extra to get something I knew would work because I’m not sure of my ability to put one together lol but by all means- if you have the ability to build one, I’d say go for it!

The gun I purchased from Amazon, I would recommend getting something better like MTM or active. The foam cannon is MJJC and the hose is an Uberflex 50ft

how many rinses did you get out of the filters? is 20 tds the max?
@atouchofhutchad8 ай бұрын
I’m not sure how many rinses I got out of the filters but they lasted me a season which is about 4-5 months. Anything above 1 TDS you risk water spotting but you can stretch it I would just be very careful.

Does this bypass only work when the filters are connected? I did it without and it would go out the right side.

9 out of 10. Does a great job of removing contaminants from the water, I just wish the resin lasted longer. Definitely a great purchase for all detailers.

I just got Mine and the bypass is a great idea, I’m going to do that. I was thinking making everything quick connect but the bypass is even better imo. However, the reason they recommend a new hose is so old mineral build up doesn’t end up contaminating your fresh clean water. That’s the only issue that still exists with your setup. Even though you bought a new hose you are running both clean and unclean water through it depending on if the bypass is on or off. That would leave the risk of contamination in the hose getting in your clean water when you don’t the water through the spotless, after you just ran water with minerals in it through the same hose during your rinse. Maybe you’ve already thought of this or there’s another comment. I would use a dedicated clean water hose and a dedicate “rinse” hose if I were you. Or just run all the water through the spotless.
@atouchofhutchad4 ай бұрын
Appreciate the great tips! For me, the TDS meter is so handy to have to know I have clean water coming through my pressure washer, even though your suggestion of a rinse hose is a great idea too!
@gothops1543 ай бұрын
I just got mine and what you’re saying makes sense until I get to the outlet side. The collared part of your y-valve it attached to the filter output, and it has no close valve. So when you’re running the bypass, what’s making the water follow into your pressure washer instead of being pushed into the filter outlet hole? I mean I’m watching you use it so I guess it works, but something here is off to me. I’m not a plumber nor do I fully understand the internals of the y-valve, but it seems like your bypass would be pushing water into both the other opened valve as well as into the “collared” valve that is attached into the outlet of the filter. Maybe once you have already used the filter, and it’s now full of water, and the inlet valve is closed, when the water goes all the way thru the bypass and reaches the y-valve on the other side, the collared valve is “plugged” bc the filter is full of water which has no place to escape so the water is forced to go to the other open valve which leads to the pressure washer
@atouchofhutchad3 ай бұрын
I see exactly what you mean and I honestly can’t tell you the mechanics of it. I guess as the water goes into the inlet side and when you have your Y-splitter set to filter or not it will just force it into the pressure washer. Mine works well and I hope yours does too!

Great Video and a “novel solution”. I’ve had a DIC-20 for years now, I converted it to a DIC-10, because the cost of refills, and I no longer washed an RV. I built a “by-pass” from PVC, with 3 valves, pipes, weight, quick connects, etc. It “worked” until, it didn’t! Leaked, cracked, pressure release joints 😢! Nothing but trouble!. I was going to rebuild it, then came across your video: WOW 😅! Straight forward and “tight”! Thanks 😊

Hey my guy they want you to use a new hose in case water deposits are in the old one, so when you use the bypass you’re putting the deposits back in the hose. Seems like it doesn’t matter though

Now since u ran bypass water (unfiltered water through the new hose, doesn’t that build water deposits in the hose? I know they say flush the hose and let it run for 30secs with filter water. So should I even buy a new hose if we use bypass unfiltered water, new hose is supposed to be only filtered water?
@atouchofhutchad Жыл бұрын
Can’t give you a great answer to that but what I can say is buying a new hose will ensure there is no hard water deposits in that hose when you begin using the spotless water system. I assume that every time you use filtered water it will flush out the hard water deposits. This may be a question for CR Spotless. They have great customer service.
