Stock for stock I feel modern 450s pull on those 500s. Swap a 500 into a modern aluminum frame and things start to get a little sketchy Swap a built 500, like groutaone's , into a modern aluminum frame and you've got a monster.

DiDoSvK I've seen that build. Absolute monster. If I were to build a modern 500 I'd just go with a 2016 Ktm 300 or 250 and rebuild it using the BRC racing 500 conversion kit. First 500 2 stroke with modern engineering AND e-start. No rattling every bolt apart or numbing your hands.

I know they have their problems, but every bike does, I'm a honda loyalist but I'm not strictly honda, If I had money I would probably but I'm a low income person, I ride for fun because I can't afford to race, but lately my dad has helped out and I get to do a hill climb this year in april. My point is, if the bike runs and rides I could care less what color it is.

I had an 03 RM 250 and it was such a great reliable bike. I rode it 200 miles in 1 day in the UP of Michigan and it never missed a beat.

@@jasonwulff8341 That's what I mean. My dad has a 98 cr 250 and it rides like a 450. 98 was Honda's best years for the 250 2 stroke racing wise. That thing still runs and rips with the ORIGINAL tires on it, Honda's are also dirt cheap for top end or bottom end, parts in general. It's all about finding the right bike.

Yea there is no way it's got 60 horse and won't beat a 450 .... but these cr500s are like 20 years old and for a bike to be able to compete against a modern 4 stroke even the slightest bit is impressive because of how old the 500 is

A 500 definitely smokes a 450 in a straight line and in deep loam/sand, but cant beat a 450 around a track because of the old frame geometry and suspension etc. Now a 500AF! That's a different prospect.
