What puzzles me is the secrecy about it. "I've said too much", that's a wild statement to do about a silly photoshow from 30 years ago. Sounds like a living and breathing creepypasta, but with actual leads to it being real. What happened? What *REALLY* happened for those people to be so reluctant to speak out? Is this guy even dead? The lack of a public death certificate is really suspicious (dunno about the rest of the world but here in Argentina, those are indeed public records)... What if Chris McKinstry was just a pen/screen name?

Here’s a piece of advice for everyone: If someone is probing you for information about something that you’d rather not be made public, do NOT say “I’ve said too much” and then leave. Listen. One thing I know about Latin America is that they do keep good records on certificates of birth and death for Americans, Canadians, and Europeans. They don’t want that type of trouble with those first world countries. I’m hispanic-american and lived in Ecuador for 2 years. Once I flashed my passport, it got me places. If this dude died and they saw where he was from, theyd have no problem sending a certificate and body to where it was needed and asked for…. So why does Chile not have the certificate?

latina here who had family who worked with death certificates. Latin america tends to deal with certificates of death EXTREMELY carefully for gringos. There's a type of adoration culture (especially in Brazil where I live) around foreign people, so not only do we not want trouble with countries who have far more power than us, as you mentioned, we also hold them in extremely high regard. Also as somebody else mentioned around in the comments, there is no "general hospital" in chile, all "suspicious" deaths are dealt with by the SML (servicio médico legal), including most suicides

To this day it is very easy to buy a cop and much easier to have an article written about your death (that also speaks highly of you). As others have pointed out, an NDA is conditional on time and other factors. For example, an NDA filed by a company that no longer exists, unless a codicil states that it is specific to a patent or an IP, or even to a person, will eventually expire and "the truth comes out" as they say. Even if this was part of a massive court case (For financial or . . . Yes, let's say it, other crimes committed in the making of the show, if it existed), the statute of limitations and/or NDAs would still be a limited length in time. Never heard of anything blocked in perpetuity, and even so, there could well be leaks.

Yes and no - we are *losing* more "media" in terms of computerized data than ever before; vast reaches of the web (to say nothing of the actual internet) have long since vanished forever. It is entirely possible that this project is literally gone; especially considering it's photo-and-web page format. Maybe someone has the original photograph negatives laying around, but the web page code itself is probably long gone, along with whatever old IDE hard drives they were stored on from nearly two decades ago, as well as the servers they ran on. Melted for scrap or buried in a landfill somewhere outside of Toronto, the odds of ever finding an intact "episode" of CR6 is likely nil.

Idk if this has anything to do with it, but where I'm from, when we want to give a ridiculous number we usually go for 7 or a number containing 7. I know 7 has some cultural, spiritual meaning of some kind, but Idk what the meaning is. Some examples could be: "Well you live like 7 miles away!" (not a literal 7 miles); "You're not buying 7 of those, are you?" (again, not literally 7); "I swear this is the 7th time I changed schools!" (kid prob changed them 3-4 times). The person who first said "See you in the 7th dimension" or something clearly intended to mock Chris, so they exaggerated. It's possible that they were also from a country that has a similar association with 7, so to make it clear that they are mocking Chris, they used the number 7 to indicate that this is an exaggeration. The second post containing the phrase could just be mocking the original reply back. Again, Idk if what I'm saying is actually helpful, I just wanted to clarify that 7 has certain meanings and uses in some cultures.

I am from Winnipeg, and was a student at the University of Manitoba in the mid to late 90's when all of this was going on. Was big into tech at the time but had never heard of this at all! Fascinating! That being said, the Winnipeg Free Press does have an online archive of all their old newspapers, their article shown at 21:22 is available at the site, along with a dozen or so articles mentioning CR6 as well. Don't know if it will help, thought I'd mention it just in case.

It almost seems to me that *this* is the show: a cast and crew who seem to repeat the same lines, be ambiguous about the same things, a creator who said he thinks this could go on for decades, old cast and crew who leave what are ultimately breadcrumbs, for a show that's... just photos? All it would take is someone to have the foresight for what the internet would become, or might become. Honestly, jokes about this stuff weren't uncommon; "we should _____, maybe someone will find it in 20/200 years", pondering what future internet archeology might be like. There's probably lots of stuff stoned people did offhand with that idea in their heads. The possibility of *this* being something like that isn't absolutely unfathomable. Perhaps everyone forgot about it, and now that people are interested, they're just playing their roles and saying their lines. It is oddly defined as a soap opera with mystical elements (death, rebirth, ambiguous states in between) projected to last for decades, right? Sounds like the narratives coming out are ripe for that.

After knowing there's ambiguity behind Chris' death, taking a second listen to the very public manner in which he broadcasted his "suicide" comes off suspiciously deliberate. I feel like cast/crew of the show know this too, as something so trivial as a 20 year old failed web series isn't something multiple people would tell you to stop looking into. He seems exactly like the type of guy who could slip a few bucks to the right person to type up a death notice in the paper.

This is bizarre... The whole dropping tidbits, saying "I've said too much" and then ghosting seems... Like, either deliberately leading or deliberately messing with people. Lots of folks have been involved with projects that were bad, but are still willing to acknowledge that they exist (there was a book and a movie made about the Room). People doing work they didn't get paid for is also not a new thing, though they usually end up in court cases (which ultimately become a matter of public record). Maybe if there was a settlement, they'd be forbidden from speaking about the terms... But since nobody ever got paid, I'm assuming that's not the case. The cloak-and-dagger "THIS WAS AWFUL AND NOBODY MUST EVER SPEAK OF IT EVER AGAIN" line is just too strange. It's also bizarre that there's no death certificate. No death certificate means that legally he's not dead and his creditors would still out there looking for him. Faking your death without a headstone or a death certificate, even a forged one, seems really half-assed... I don't think a hard-core debt collection outfit it going to call it a day just based on an article in a newspaper. So I dunno what to think. My gut says he's still out there somewhere, he's just been more diligent about covering his tracks.

There is a not-so-subtle inconsistency in Chris's suicide story. His on-line suicide "note" suggests he's taken enough dangerous drugs to "destroy his liver," and then implies he's losing his ability to focus to continue the messaging. Strange that he would comment on liver damage, which would hint at longer term effects, than, say, an opioid OD. And the newspaper article suggests he was found having gassed himself to death and mentions nothing about drugs, but a strange blood stain. Maybe they don't bother with autopsies in Chile.

It's also strange as well. But even if he did use fast-acting drugs/meds, it probably didn't work as expected, so he resorted to inhaling gas. Also, he could just be being hyperbolic or dramatic..no telling how if it was some emotional or personality issue that caused this. But I know that suicidal ideation from overwhelming emotions can make you, as said above, hyperbolic. The drugs failing and him trying to gas himself is common. Suicide attempts, especially those that have failed will learn from their mistakes. His was drugs plus suffocation. Has everyone stopped using local libraries for microfiche and digitized microfiche? Those old newspapers still exist as they hold a wealth of research gold. Not everything in online or archived in the wayback machine. Ask the librarian for help. They will open a whole new world of possibilities. They have connections to libraries and archives that have not yet uploaded their collections online.

I planned a similar (but nicer) email right around that era, like a dead man's switch, that would be sent to my internet friends if I didn't log in for a set amount of days. This sounds kind of extreme and probably silly, but the whole "I've said too much" thing those two people said, makes me wonder if somebody was badly hurt during the production of the show and it's been covered up. Although, the creative team suing him or something else money related makes way more sense. If there was an active investigation or lawsuit it would explain why nobody's saying anything. At least, to me. I don't honestly know if you can really sue somebody in another country for something related to money, so there's that. However, if he really is deceased, those previous theories make zero sense. I should also mention that I'm not very smart so if this is complete nonsense I'm sorry.

You're onto something with the court case theory... If there was some sort of ongoing legal action, though, there should be some sort of record of it. Also, just because you can't comment on the case doesn't mean that you can't acknowledge that there is one. You'd think they could at least say "This is a part of an ongoing court case and I can't discuss it any further at this time". It kind of comes off as trying to be deliberately mysterious or enticing.

It sounds more like there might be a non-disclosure agreement than a cover-up. Chile is particularly good at keeping records of birth and death certificates. Death records are public and anyone can access them. I find it odd that there’s nothing there about the guy. I think he’s dead but I don’t think he died at that time in Chile. If he did go through the trouble of faking his death I think the logical thing to do next would be to move somewhere else (prob in Latin America) and change his name as soon as his ‘death’ in Chile was known to the public. I still think he’s dead but if he’s still alive he would have changed his name already.

Though I do think it's super weird that all of this hatred and secrecy comes solely because Chris didn't pay anyone and was a conman. I'm thinking there's a little more, maybe everyone signed an NDA so they can't talk about it. In the pilot episode of WKRP Johnny Fever comes back to DJ the morning show on WKRP after WKRP switches format to a rock AOR radio format and after Johnny had been fired for saying the word “booger” on air. The show starred Loni Anderson as the “dumb blonde” receptionist who actually made most of the decisions for the boss. It’s episodes always featured thematically a struggle between the more progressive on air talent and the conservative business end of the station and portrayed conservatives as obvious idiots and bigots. Like the time when conservative weatherman Les Nessman decides to give out free turkeys at thanksgiving by dropping them from a helicopter into a mall parking lot not realising turkeys can’t fly. Causing them to plummet a thousand feet like bombs and blow up on contact. In another episode, a religious organization tries to get WKRP shut down for playing John Lennon’s Imagine, because it contained the lyric “imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try.” Luckily, America got over its religion problem because of that episode and the religious right was never a problem again in history ever again. The end. The show was one of the best written sitcoms of its time. It should really get more recognition.

My feeling is that a lot of the people involved with Chris and the show's production, were hypnotised by Chris ("it was a cult of personality around Chris"). They were young actors and staff that Chris took advantage of, and they bought his line. I think that was what "Diane" meant by "you had to be there", because the production period was probably, at the time, a magical time for a lot of the people involved, but very distressing for others ("he pitted people against each other and succeeded"). But after it became clear they were all conned and scammed, it's deeply embarrassing, and since a lot of them are also successful now, they don't want a record of it or even to talk about it. It's probably also a sensitive subject for them because they were emotionally manipulated/abused. All speculation but I think that is the most plausible reason that people are secretive of revealing details. None of the people involved stand to gain anything from it.
