Always found details of history in school difficult as a boy. Would have been quite different if we had lecturers such as prof Ronald Hutton. Really enjoyed this lecture.

This is the first talk I’ve listened to about Oliver Cromwell ever and I was not expecting all of those well-placed pop culture references to liven-up the subject matter without trivialising it. Cool! Though wow this was weeks before the first lockdown and I hope that chest infection wasn’t COVID. 😢

I can't quite recall when this evolution with which the speaker closes occured in Cromwell's carreer. Floppy white lillies of thanks for a fine lecture to the liberal professor.

Summary: if Cromwell asks others to decide, he's wrong. If he dictates, he's also wrong. No wonder he lost his rag.

Excellent insight to Cromwell the man. But a pity you didn't mention his time in Ireland!

This is a harsh appraisal of Cromwell, but I think it makes the case he was the first truly modern British politician, even more deserving of that title than Walpole.

A fascinating tale of a bumbling megalomaniac. I recognize many parallels to modern day U.S. ruminations.

Sounds to me like maybe Hutton's forebearers were some of the defeated Cavaliers perhaps??? It's time to let 1651 go!
