In my experience, you have to screw the drywall around the crack so the drywall doesn't move - even if you think the drywall doesn't have any movement. For small jobs like this, Durabond works but I always have 5 min and 20 min hot mud (i.e. ez sand) on hand to prefill. Use TAPE, not mesh, and use All Purpose mud to float out. Nice job nonetheless!

In some cases I screw off the board. Mostly on butt joints that crack. I always use durabond brown bag to fill those gaps. That has a lot of plaster in it and dries harder than any compound on the market aside from plaster of Paris. I have found that quickset easy sand muds do not have the strength and will compromise over time.
