Hey Shay..I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, as this past week has been the hardest of my life. I've been taking this web development boot camp for the past 3 months and I'm graduating in less that 2 weeks. While taking this class I was unable to work because it was 8 hours a day and 7 days a week...I wanted to dedicate my entire time to this because it's going to be my career. My boyfriend was relentlessly looking for employment and this past Wednesday was lucky enough to secure a job! I thought everything was going to be okay, but on Thursday night I came home to a electricity shut off notice..I knew that I was behind majorly but didn't expect for this to happen so suddenly..now that my electricity is shut off, I'm at my honest lowest point..I have to pay them a large amount of money, just putting me in deeper debt...I remember the day you called Dave Ramsey to say "WERE DEBT FREE" and I can't wait till I can shout that out loud myself...I remember you talking about how you and Colette had to take toilet paper from taco bell and how you didn't know where money was going to come from..Recently I've just been telling myself that one day I know that I'll be okay, I know that I'll make it..Going through this has really tested my faith, but I'm trying to keep positive more and more each day. I doubt you'll even read this, because you've helped way more people than I can even imagine, but in case you do I want to say THANK YOU! Even though I am in such a bad place right now, you're family is keeping me going. I might not know when my electricity will be back on, but I do know that this isn't the end..I will prevail... If anybody could please thumbs this comment up so Shay could read it, it would me a lot to me..you don't have to, but as he has done for many, Shay has saved my life.. Again, Thank You Shay. Oh my gosh... I feel like Shay was talking to me when he was giving advice about not listening to people you look up to. I feel that way about my older brothers and sister. I always make decisions based on what I think they would want me to do. My opinion is always easily influenced by them. I don't step out of my comfort zone because I am afraid to hear what they will say. They are so opinionated and I have always been a follower. Just yesterday I had been struggling with what choices I want to make with my future and the thought popped in my head "why should I care what they think?" I had to go back and watch the part where you we're talking about "not giving a gosh darn" I watched it and then suddenly I thought, wait! That really is good advice! I am graduating from a community college on Wednesday. I've been there for two and a half years. The family I nanny for here, I have become very close to, to the point where I share a lot with the mother of the kids. She's really big into school and education, she has a PhD, she just wants the best for me. However, school isn't for me. I've been 2+ years and I think that's enough, I'm proud of what I have accomplished. I can tell by her expression that she thinks I'm not making the right choice, that I should go on to a four year university. That right there is the reason I watch The Shaytards. I have been trying to please my parents my entire life. I busted my butt at school not only for me but for them. I worked so hard my senior year, I was crazy busy, super stressed out but I sat on stage at graduation. I've always wanted them to be proud, I've always wanted to prove to them what a great kid I am, but when I started getting into KZbin they did not approve. KZbin was just a hobby, I've edited a few videos, (The Shaytards Four Year Montage is mine), and I've done a few family videos and some others. They did not want me chase after KZbin. I have now found what I want to do, Biomedical engineering. It has taken me a long time to get to this point. I didn't even tell my parents when I decided on a major because I wanted to make sure it was what I wanted and not what they wanted for me. Granted, they have been proud of me every step of the way, but I've just always felt the need to please them. Shay and Colette have pushed me over the years to break away, to be my own person, to love what I do. Thank you both so much, you have taught me so much over the last five years!

Hi I always turn on to the shaytard vlogs and I always laugh my head off at them but at the same time I always get inspired by shay and his family and what they say. Without the shaytards I don't know where I would be! I understand how disappointing about the surgery :( It really sucks that you got prepared and everything weeks ahead of time before the surgery. I'm really glad the doctors tested you again. It's best not to take a chance and ruin your eyesight. I wish I could wear contacts. I've tried them a year and a half ago and they strained a muscle in my left eye which still hurts sometimes. You're lucky to be able to wear contacts but of course it would be nice to not have to put them in your eyes.

I am 13 and I have been bullied ever since I could remember about my weight and how i looked. Now those bullies and all those mean comments people tell me and names people call me. But they motivated me to get up everyday and do insanity. I started off with 21 day fix extreme and now doing insanity! And I am loving it I have lost almost 30 pounds so far and just starting I can't wait for what is to come in the future. The same thing happened to me about a month ago. I was getting a check to get lasik eye surgery, I wasn't a candidate but they said I would be for lens eye surgery, they did one final check and ended up telling me I wouldn't be able to do it. It was disappointing to me that after such a long time of wanting eye surgery, I ended up being told it would not be possible. I was very annoyed/upset on that day as well.

Don't worry Colette things like this happen I had planned to get a weight loss surgery and I had to do so many tests and doctor appointments for about 6 months and a couple weeks before the surgery my insurance at work changed and I couldn't get it anymore. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Maybe it would've been a bad choice in the long run and it was a change of path for the good. There are different options. Just be positive :)

my mom got that surgery and they never told her she wasn't a good candidate until after she had the surgery and they then told her she wasn't a good candidate when she found out she couldn't see when she was driving at night. So it's good that you didn't do it.

The same thing happened to me but with my wisdom teeth. Dentists give me anxiety and I spent a whole month building up my mental state to get ALL 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled only for me to get there and in the chair and the suction machine stops working. I had to wait an extra 2 weeks to get it done and those 2 weeks were awful. But it's finally over and I'm not in as much pain as I thought. Good luck Colette on your next eye adventure. When Shay was talking about not worrying about what the people you look up to think about you, I had an interesting thought. I instantly thought of how much his kids look up to and admire him, and how hard it would be if they grew up and realized they don't value Mormon beliefs like Shay and Colette. I would imagine it would be very hard for the child to tell them (although I have no doubt the kids know Shay and Colette love them unconditionally and would support them in anything). I wonder, if that situation ever did come about, if Shay would remember this advice and be proud of his children for living their life how they want. (Just to be clear for anyone reading, I am not saying that the kids feel this way already, nor am I implying that Shay and Colette push their religion on their children - or anyone else for that matter. They are an incredibly inspiring family)

I think it will be fascinating to see how the children mature as they grow through their teenage years and develop their own ideas about life, and how this might affect the family dynamic. Though they are all close now, I wonder how Shay would feel if one or more of them decided to choose a different, more independent path in later life.

They actually talk about this in one of their videos. They say they want them to make their own choices, they hope they follow the same religion they do because they care about it, but they will love and support them all no matter what they choose. So I think they have thought about it and talked to each other about it :)

Allison Pineo I doubt the kids would change religion however I had that question too but in terms of sexual orientatiom. If like Brock for example "becomes" gay I seriosuly dont know how Shay would react, duo to religion and the importance of having your own child aka heritage and such

At my school, we film at webcast every Wednesday and we announce the birthdays. It was this kid Jacob Butler's birthday and I kept on saying Gavin Butler 😂 I couldn't figure out why I said Gavin until I looked at KZbin...😂

You are right Shay that is the real challenge. When I hear people talk about their "haters" all it makes me think is that they do care about what strangers think of them. It also makes me think they have quite an ego. Not people on youtube who actually have strangers hating on them but most people don't. If there are strangers who look down on me I don't even know or care. That doesn''t even register to me, I am not important enough for strangers to have opinions of me. I am important to the people I love and who love me. Those are the opinions that I care about. It is very hard when someone you look up to disapproves of your life decisions. That is a real life thing and not some egotistical internet made up crap from strangers. Thanks for clarifying I agree 100%

Tbh I'm glad Collete didn't do the eye laser surgery cause my mom and her 3 friends did but apparently 2 of my mom's friends are still wearing glasses and what's worst is the first one can't look at any bright light or her eyes get watery or she can't see so she wears sunglasses 24/7 now and her other friend's eyes keep twitching a lot, and all of it is because of eye laser surgery
