My Surface 2 ( P3W-00001 ) had the dreaded "Plugged in - Not charging" problem. I tried ALL the "soft fixes" found on-line to no avail. This video gave me the guidance I needed to try and replace the battery. I used my heat gun to warm the glass surface, waving the heat gun all over the glass in order to warm it all but.. not too hot to the touch - still noticeably warm. I took great care to not heat the plastic case in order to prevent it from warping / melting. Once warm, I used my fine utility knife to carefully and gingerly lift one corner of the glass, then wooden "popsicle sticks" to slowly separate (and maintain separation of) the rest of the glass from the adhesive - maintaining heat on the glass all along. Once open, I found that the Date Code on the battery was 2013-10-10 - a little over 2.5 years old.. My problem first showed up about one year ago, but I did nothing about it at that time (other than try the soft fixes found on-line) since I could still use the Surface when it was plugged in. Not discussed in the video, but the original battery is model # GB-S20-3096A5-0100 - I ordered a replacement battery - P21G2B. I'll update once I have results / details to share.

did the replacement work? What did you use to glue the screen back down?

As I am currently in a similar predicament, it would be much appreciated if you were able to respond as to what methods you used to replace your Surface's screen and battery. Such as, did you buy a new battery from Amazon? And most important for me is how did you replace the screen? Finally, how is your DIY fix holding up now?

How to fix battery on surfaces 3???
@Leonelf010 жыл бұрын
It's always silly if you say that the screws have different sizes. That's good that they do! Screws need to be adjusted for each usecase and sometimes you dont need the big screw to fixate the camera or a little screw to fixate the motherboard! Just taking care of a few types of screws isnt something bad!

Gday i have 2 surface 2s and one of them has a broken digitizer i was wondering what the best way is to seperate the LCD and the Digitizer, please some1 reply.
@nickgrilli73028 жыл бұрын
+UnDeAdSnIpr1912 I used a heat gun set at 460 degrees. It is important to NOT stay in the same spot for too long, especially along the bottom edge where connector strips are, or on top where cameras are. If your heat gun kicks out more than 500 degrees, I would think about purchasing one with adjustable heat setting, with a minimum of 500 degrees or lower. Let me know if you have any questions, I just finished replacing my LCD assembly.

I hope you have better luck than me. I replaced the screen, but couldn't get the touch screen to work. I sent it back for another one, same result. So I essentially have a laptop, but at least it works. Good luck!

Obviously, the thinner and lighter they make the tablet, the harder and more inconvenient it will be to “crack open”. The idea behind this is basically to make the device obsolete after 1-4 years so that the consumer goes out to replace their tablet/computer. Its sad to say that this is happening to all new devices :-/

and the battery will only last about 2 years then throw it away which is what I'm doing and getting a cheap Wi10 full 8.1 window tablet for a third of the cost of a surface.

Not really interested in how the old Surface RT compares to the Surface 2 or the iPad, you spend a lot of time and effort on that. All this just confuses things. Just show us how to take this one apart please. I want to change the dead battery out.

If your tablet needs a repair, take it back to the company you bought it from. Since when does any sane person care about repairing their tablet, and/or how easy it is?
@MaximumChank10 жыл бұрын
Since you bring up repairing, making the tablet harder and more time consuming to repair makes repair costs go up, regardless of who you end up paying to do it. And down the road, used hardware that is difficult to repair makes it worth less to people who might repair and refurbish it for reuse. But I doubt that's relevant for most people, not because they can just send it to Microsoft to get it repaired, but because most people would just toss it and buy a new one instead of trying to sell it or getting it fixed.
@nja32247 жыл бұрын
I've always had an interest in taking things apart and putting them back together. That never went away. I would like to think I am sane.
