GE Advanced Silicone has done a great job for my asphalt driveway. It’s hard to beat 100% flexible silicone. The latex-ite stuff didn’t last at all for me.

I live in Michigan and have used those products and similar products and none work. Yes, they fill the crack but the first winter it will crack again. One slab of asphalt mores one way the other slab moves another way causing a crack.

I've been a professional sealcoater in MI, for 10 years...unfortunately, nothing lasts. If you get 2 years out of any of it...that's amazing!!! We have way too many freeze/thaw cycles every year...that's the driveway killer!

@@fermiticus4034 Doing a long asphalt driveway tomorrow, please advice, is it worth to invest on fixing spider cracks? At this point, I think do three cotas of sealing and not bother on the cracks since nothing has ever helped, my driveway keeps on giving new spider cracks and minor cracks. I use the liquid sealer poured in the crack, after it shrinks, I come back, and put another bead, over the shrinkage. Now, this is the over the top step! Come back, with a hand torch and a putty knife, and "touch" the crack fill, with the torch, and smooth it with a putty knife. When you put on seal coat, it's like new! Well, you might have to squint, a bit.

I've tried everything they make to repair cracks in asphalt. It's all garbage except for pli-stix. I don't know if any store that stocks it but I ordered it through Home Depot and had it shipped to the store for free. 3 years after using it is still holding up strong. Nothing else I've used had made it through 1 winter. Most of it not even that long. I'm telling you pli-stix is the ticket. It's like a tar rope that you push down into the crack than heat it with a torch and it melts and self levels. They make it in several sizes. It's not expensive either. I think I got 2 of the 100' rolls for like $25.

I'll give that a try if I get another crack or if this repair doesn't hold up in the long term. So far it seems fine over the summer.

Pli-stix at Home Depot cost $14 for 30 ' (that's $92 for 200"), NOT $25 for 200', sheesh

Have you tried Aquaphalt 4.0? Ace Hardware carries it.

That is the best actual asphalt I think a homeowner can get to do potholes, etc. However, it woudn't work effecively for such small cracks like the one in this video. If the crack was wider and could fit the aquaphalt in it then it is the best I think!

Its pretty much like people said in the comments. It looked pretty good for about 6 months then back to being a open crack. Back to the drawing board.

Great video. Too bad they don't make a syringe to insert in the crack to fill it and make it look better, instead of putting it on top. Mine looks like a jigsaw puzzle.

Has anyone had to resort to repaving the whole driveway and I wonder what that would do in regard to several cracks, which mine has. Hugely expensive I am sure.

I'm not sure of the cost but depending on the condition of the driveway you can get a new top layer done. The recommendation I saw was that the drive was under 20 years old and cracks were less than 1/4 inch.

@@whatsnextdiy Thank you. Mine is I guess exactly 20 years old! Most are less than 1/4 but one likely isn't. I need to measure them! Thanks again. The builder was a bit chintzy. It's on a standalone lot, not in a development. I'll have to get some pro help. Nice video.

@@cricketinfield1770 Adding another layer of new asphalt is a great "band-aid", for a short time. Typically, within the first 3 years or so, you'll start to see cracks in the same places they were on the original. Within ten years...it's in about the same condition as the original. Of course, there are variations in that time-line...but that is the average, from my observation and experience as an asphalt sealcoater, here in Michigan. Freeze/thaw cycles are the biggest factor. Here in southern MI...we get a lot of freezing/thawing every year. In the north, driveways tend to hold up a bit better, due to less freezing/thawing...same goes for down south.

So how did that product hold up for you? Yeah I just bought a new crib and I have the same problem as you, but I'm going to go at it from a tuckpointers point-of-view I'm going to grind the cracks out first. I will also add backer rod if needed.

Those crack fillers not gonna last. May look ok first month but movement of asphalt will break it apart. I haven’t found a solution yet and don’t know it I will ever find a solution. I think it’s a scam from the companies to rebuy their production every year.

Yes I think if your asphalt moves it won't last, I'm pretty positive the crack in mine was caused from a heavy rain that froze the next day. So I'm hoping it doesn't move any more. My gutter in the video only had one extension so it was dumping all its water in the corner. So far the repair has held up, I guess time will tell.

Right product but wrong applicator. Use a v-squeegee to push the sealant into the crack. I cut, installed and sealed numerous traffic detection loops in asphalt in sunny brutal sun Florida. it would have taken me about ten minutes to seal that crack. The additional advantage is that your seal will be smooth, I would have appled a second coat the following day.

I know the real deal. The cracks get wide in the winter and close up in the summer. You must fill the cracks when they are wide open.

Out of all the products on the market today to repair or resurface blacktop surfaces Roklin systems offers the best but expensive solution. It's a two part system that self levels. Other then that the DYI products today that are latex based just don't hold up long. 50 years ago they use to offer a tar based product that was oil based and that would work good but wasn't user friendly and I bet you band for being bad for everyone.

Thanks for the feedback, this looked pretty good through summer and fall but now that its winter it has shrunk. The crack is exposed but smaller than the original so I guess its not completely useless but close.

@@whatsnextdiy rapid set actually sells a cement based fast set product that acts more like a cement repair but for blacktop. No crack is going to disappear forever.

​@@johnds6621We used a cement based product before. It dryed so hard and forced more cracks than ever the next year. We've tried so many techinques and products. It's terrible to spend all that money and time for terrible results. Wish someone could make a cold patch that is the same texture as origional asphalt driveway that you can level, seal and coat that truely holds up for the price and efforts.

there is. it is called AquaPhalt! It is an awesome cold patch material sold in a bucket. The 4.0 is usually the best one to get. But that is actually asphalt. So the crack needs to be wide enough to work the AquaPhalt down into it and tamp it. Then you water it and dries as hard as rock and lasts longer than the rest of your driveway. @@johnkelly9451
