8:03 - I feel that's debatable. Sure, less spec highlights can be what you're after (especially with sweaty people), but it also gives wax faces that lack life. In the example, I feel 50% of the effect could help the image, this is too much. But I get that you can adjust it, and that's dope. The flares are pretty intense, but most flare filters are. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. Main issue to me is that the threshold for flaring is too low, but that's an issue of the optics and not of these particular flare filters. For what they are, they are solid. And I like a lot how they made their filters play together; they thought this through, and that's always super sexy. The golden ring to to the base-adjustment is a bit larger than it seemingly needs to be, but what gives, that's complaining on a very high level. I love how it wraps around the front; how many discussions did we have with companies about this :)

EXACTLY! As for polarization, I think I'm just so used to not using ANY that when I saw the difference I was into it 1000%. Practice and constant use would make me dial it back like you suggested. And yes, all the small things they compounded together make it really feel thought through. It was a really hard video to make because I kept struggling on "how can I properly show how smart this whole thing is??". hahaha

I plan to invest in this system. Good filters are expensive, and some are nonsensically expensive. These seem to be reasonably priced for what you get. I find myself constantly frustrated with the trash on Amazon and I’ve been seeking out a more cohesive system. I love the ease of use and thoughtful design here. Though I agree with other commenters - the flares are a bit too strong.

sounds great, but... those streak filters are sinister :)) way too intense, primarily, but also producing some odd artifacts the lever on the VND is nice, but that stage of the filter should have both several points where the lever could be screwed in (every 45 degrees maybe) and should have geared outer ring, so that it could be controlled via follow focus (assuming the lever is unscrewed) however, the incompatibility with matte boxes worries me - for compact run and gun I've come to love the Tilta mini matte box, which I can use with lens that take up to 82mm filters - there are compromises all the way down ofc, but in principle most lens are designed to take at least 1-2 "nano" filters in front of them before vignetting (if slight vignetting is an issue at all, as with most 16:9 cameras it tends not to be and with 3:2 sensors framing is anyways done with the intent of slight crop-reframe in post, usually) and in cases like these, the matte box solution needs to be mounted on rods or behind the filters (this latter option is what I go with), but then any such design that is to accommodate these kinds of filters (either the magrota or the homebrewed solution I described above) would need to have a way for position-controlled filters (e.g. VND) to be controlled through the matte box itself or an equivalent light donut - which I haven't really seen anyone tackling yet. such a solution would need to allow the VND gears or equivalent lever to be exposed outside the matte box, through it (I don't find such a solution impossible, it just requires careful designing) I dream of such future :))

Something to add here that wasn't mentioned: Adding so many glass filters in front of the lens will soften the image dramatically and loses image quality as well, as can be seen with your tests. One test to confirm this is to add all filters that aren't supposed to soften the image (in design), like FX streaks, a Polarizer and NDs without the Black Mist, and compare the image quality to when the Black Mist is added alongside them versus no filters at all. The design is cool, but the degradation in image quality is quite harsh. I think the Tilta Mirage w/ VAXIS glass is far better for both the image quality and price. This is way overpriced, but great review as usual!

I have a Anamorphic bokeh Question not related to this video. In your Anamorfake video instead of putting an oval piece in your lens have you tried reversing the lens it self for a Swirl Bokeh effect. I recently saw this by another KZbinr posted 2yrs ago. Video called Swirly Bokeh mod I believe his name was Teaphoto.

That only sort of works for the Helios 44, but it compromises the image GREATLY, so I'm not super into it.

Surely someone has come up with a variable streak filter. No? In the lower end of the market price point, stop with the coating all together as you never get it right. Too strong, too subtle, wrong color, all over the place... What is the name of that long haired dude? McKinnon something? He's in the filter business, and isn't he in your neighbourhood already? You should start manufacturing high quality variable streak filters in a variety of colors. Light blue, strong blue, amber, purple, pink... together with; "The Tito McKinnon neutral anamorphic line" at some lens manufacturer. The T Mc's... The NO! line. Say NO to bad streaks. Dr NO. I could go on forever. Aren't western advertisers and designers allowed to work in China? I mean, "Great joy"? Pitch that anywhere else, and your career is over. It shows how strong the demand is.
