Workin' was recorded in 1956, then released for the first time in 1960.

Steve, I recently discovered the output from those three RVG studio sessions ‘55-56 that resulted in MILES, RELAXIN, STEAMIN, WORKIN, and COOKIN. I picked up thIS KPG/RTI pressing of WORKIN and have pre-ordered MILES. (1) Should I wait for OJC to release the other three or pick them up from AP while they’re available? (2) I’m listening to these monos on a Hana ML and wonder if that’s good enough or if I “really” need a dedicated mono cart. I don’t really like mono and don’t plan to own any aside from these (only because they’re not being cut in stereo). Thanks!

Thanks for watching. I don't have a true dedication mono cart myself. It's something I need to get. Mono is a very subjective per listener.

Should be a gatefold being that it is the same price as the tone poet series or lower the price to equal the blue note classic series.

Odd statement to make, seeing as how the sleeves are a lot nicer than the classic series, and are completely on-par with the Tone Poet/AP jackets. There are many non-gatefold tone poets, just like there are many non-gatefold mofi and Craft reissues, all of which are in the $30-$50 price point. On top of that, I have always much preferred the non-gatefold mofi and tone poet jackets

I mean this is a premium product and expensive for a record. It should be exceptional. Craft should focus more on thier sacd catalogue for better sound at lesser cost.

Totally agree about side 2 being better particularly in terms of sound. Overall it's a great re-release but there is some distortion evident on track 2 side 1. Though this may be there in the original recording.

This is a mono recording tho no? My concern is do I need a mono cartridge to really get the benefit of the sound or does a stereo cart play back mono audiophile stuff just fine and great?

You might have a “mono” button on your stereo. That usually improves the sound on mono records a bit. By folding it down it cuts out the excess vinyl noise.

I'm still picking up the old OJCs for 18 bucks at records stores and most of them sound great. I just bought 2 the other day. I may get a couple of these new ones but at this point with everything else being released in the Jazz world, these are not on the top of my list.

I wonder why Analogue Productions did Cookin, Relaxin, Steamin, but not Workin... I'll compare mine when it comes to the '87 OJC, which I purchased at a time when the OJC label was 'decent for the price', now OJC has become much more 'high end' for some reason.

Title is misspelled.. its Workin' - would love to hear your take if you have other versions that you can compare.

What I need is more reasonable prices for records!!

Exactly. That’s why these OJCs’ are so incredible. Audiophile quality without the high price.

They had this and a couple copies of an older ojc workin’ for 25 bucks. Got the cheaper one and sounds decent
