Hi..I have a big jar of white acrylic paint which I purchased during some discount offer , can I use a first coat of gesso/chalk paint on the MDF and then use the white acrylic paint before adhering the transfer sheet..

Yes yes can use acrylics in MDF post coat of gesso or chalk paint. The difference will be acrylics will give you glossy look as opposed to matte look given by chalk paints.
