Craft With Me - Let’s Make Tim Holtz Style Mini File Folders

Hey Guys,
In todays video I wanted to try out making my own mini file folders in a Tim Holtz grungy style. I love the way these came out. These are easy to make as long as you have a template to use for sizing. I cut out a square in the middle to make a window to attach a Tim Holtz Snap Shot in the middle. I hope you like them and craft along with me.

Ok, the way you are able to grunge up ephemera when it is glossy is that you get some modpodge and white tissue paper. Glue the tissue paper over your glossy picture. Let wringle some too so it looks older. Once it dries, then you can ink the edges. Works like a charm.

You mentioned getting a black mat...if you work with a lot of black cardstock it's really difficult on the black mat..l went back to green...love your work

Fabulous video loving the folders, why not make a template out of acetate of your window so you can draw around the outside and see whereabouts on the photo you want to use. Love your quiet nature very easy to listen to you, hugs julie

They are all great, but my favorite would be the friendship one because I like the look of the front panel being shorter than the back panel. It shows more of the paper color. Where did you get the large dauber?

You’re right, perfection is over-rated. Those turned out great! I love that you thought to add the eyelets! Now, I have to get those key tags from DT! I think “original” is my fave, but it’s a tough call.

I absolutely love these !! whats really wild is i have every single thing to make these, exactly as you show them... Use fine sandpaper on glossy papers to give it some “tooth”. An emery board works on smaller pieces.

I had to laugh. Today I pulled out a bunch of Tim Holtz stuff and then put it right back on the shelf. I bought all of this stuff on clearance about a year ago, and I still haven't used it. Those are really cute!!! To rough up the edges of the glossy file folders is use a nail file. File just enough to rough it up and the the ink should stay on. I have those glossy folders. I have tired it, but I think it should work.

This was a GREAT video been watching you make your homemade ephemera, love it. I missed where you got the mini file folders. Also, a tip for the string make it longer and put a spot of glue on each end and roll between your fingers when dry slip it thru your holes then snip off the glued ends.

You might be able to coffee or tea dye the shiny paper to grunge them up some. I’ve never dyed shiny paper so I’m not sure. 🥰

Hi Tommi! I’m not sure how that would since the gloss is kind of a seal on the paper. Someone suggested maybe using gesso or white paint over it to change the texture of the paper. Just another idea. Thanks for watching!
