Crafters companion recently released their Gemini twin embossing machine that has taken us by storm. This machine is a large format die cutting machine that also embosses. It promises to cut the most intricate dies and at a fraction of the sound of the competitors. I teamed up with my friends over at Crafter's Companion to review this machine. Please help me! Bought new Gemini. Watched yours & prob 4 more videos BEFORE using it. First time thru, with plates & shims & die cuts & blades EXACTLY as instructed - it did nothing, even with just cutting dies onto plain piece of bond paper. Ran thru again adding metal shim, still nothing. Then, paused & reversed - still nothing on piece of bond, but with severe damage to all shims. So, I decided to flip dies over thinking maybe I misunderstood which was "blade side up", even tho I had used side shown in videos. It then cut dies in bond paper, all but one, but with large holes in shims! All of them! Thank goodness Amazon is always there for you & asked if I wanted to try another Gemini machine. It came in today (in one day). I am afraid to even TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX! NEED HELP! ~ EP

I love the Gemini Jr but the first one stopped working after 6 months. I was pleased when it was replaced with a new one very quickly. However, the replacement also stopped functioning after only 2 months!!! Apparently their customer service center has moved to a new location and it was not a smooth transition. I have been waiting for over a month to have my problem addressed. I am worried that there is some design flaw causing it to malfunction.

Hi I bought one of these and it cut thought all my plates even my magnet plate and in UK we dont get as much as you do in the box and also they're different colours but I sent it back and got a new one today as I thought it was faulty so I will have a try at it again as I manually wanted it for cutting patch work out but at the moment I am not pleased with it as all the plates you use are very pricey and dont last so I will send it back if this one does not work hope this is a good tip buy have a nice day

I like my Gemini. I have a Big Shot too. I can cut all dies now but I like not having to use a crank. I just wish it was easier to get replacement cutting plates. Good review. I also liked your review on the new Cricut.

I just got mine a few weeks back and used the motion crafts grid die. I feel like the pressure is too much that it made the cut for those grid like puffing up. I used various paper. I also used my lawn fawn die and used it to emboss instead of cutting but it cut through the embossing pad. I bought this for intricate die but seems like pressure is too much for the grid die i used. If you have the grid die of motion crafts i hope you can show how you can use this machine with the uchis grid die. Thanks for the review.

When I tried to embody my die cut ( a darice die) it cut through my rubber embossing mat! I went by the book for the sandwich, and it was the same you are showing, but it sure cut through the mat!!! Any suggestions for a different sandwich configuration???

Thank you very much for this. I recently returned a Gemini Machine £120 present and it tore sheets to bits and damaged plates very quickly, I managed to send it back and was looking for a superior model on Amazon but was bedazzled by all their items and they seemed to be pushing the model you reviewed but because of my previous exteriors I thought I would google it and am so glad to actually see you results as I definitely will not be paying the £190 plus £5 delivery from Amazon for the model you comment on. I generally DO like my Gemini. My only complaint thus far has been issue with the plates. Even though I faithfully rotated my purple bottom plate, it warped HORRIBLY! I've had to replace it already. Also, the top cutting plate...because of the pressure often impressions of the die dig into that top plate. I know this is typical of ALL machines. However, I've found that impression to be so deep that often it mars material I'm cutting with a different die....sort of embosses it. Thus, I've had to buy replacement cutting plates again. Now, in to be honest, I have MS and some days I just can't deal with a crank machine. I do love the Gemini for this. And thankfully I'm blessed to be able to buy new cutting plates as needed. But I do think there can be improvement in the design of their plates. Overall, I agree with you Ken; this is a GREAT machine. With just a few "watch outs." Thanks!

Ken, Purchasing my first cut/emboss machine. Want a machine that can handle intricate cuts as well as regular cuts and have been leaning towards Gemini, but the plates/shims appear to be quite thin compared to competitors. When I read all the reviews it sounds as though there are issues resulting from this in combination with the amount of force that this machine exerts. The other machine(s) would be either the Big Shot or Big Shot Plus. Here, it sounds as though everything is an additional cost.... precision plate, magnetic platform, on and on. Initial cost aside, I'm afraid one promises so much that it actually has made problems for itself and its consumer. The other is more than capable, but will cost a fortune before I can even send a die through it. You've tested these. Can you give me an honest opinion. Quality of end product, satisfaction and ease of process is most important. Buyer's remorse I certainly want to avoid. Thanks for the great video reviews!

I have all ways thought that you put the metal shim between the base plate and the cutting plate that way you don't ruin the metal shim or the cutting die.

Don't know if this will even be seen by anyone since this vid is older but having recently bought a Gemini and starting to use it I have one major question that I can't find the answer to anywhere. I feel off balance by having to put the die upside down to cut it. I also have a Sizzix Big Shot and all other die cutters use the cut side down method. This brings me to my question: When you stamp an image and have a matching die, how in the heck do you match it up to cut out doing this upside down? You can't see the image to cut out very well under the paper! The only way I can see to do it is to tape the die to the paper and then turn it upside down to cut! This is bothersome to me! Has anyone found a better way to do this or do I just need to revert back to my Sizzix for these cuts?? Thanks...your review was very helpful and I love your tutorials!

omg.... first of all, i have two clear plastic plates. when i want to emboss, the plates go trough the machine but not te embossing folder. i had a plastic clear, then the embossing folder with the paper inside and another plastic clear. kind of disapointed at the moment.... but i know someone will help me. :)

Janice, I have both machines, however, I only use my Gemini now. In my opinion, the major difference is that the Gemini can pause, resume, and has a reverse feature.

Janice Johnson I have both and the big difference is the pressure. I use the Gemini for intricate cuts only. Ironically it's too much pressure for simple cuts. It warps simple cuts. I'm am glad I have both. Ken makes me buy everything!😔😏

Oh wow! I sure wish the Sizzix Vagabond had such a magical "emergency eject" button or feature like that!! I've actually got the original Vagabond... (not even the supposedly-sturdier Vagabond 2)... so, it's the original machine that is notorious for easily going 'kaput' when taking in a sandwich that's too thick... cuz then the machine pretty much "seizes up" as the whole shebang... platform, die 'n all... suddenly gets caught & all jammed up inside of the machine... never again to see the light of day... a.k.a: insta-death for the machine!! So, needless to say, I've been so nervous & scared that it can happen to me at any time... (and have already had a few scares/close calls that were far ^too* close for comfort for my liking, where I'm certain that my heart had stopped beating for a few seconds each time... lol!) So this pause button/fix that you describe sounds like magic!... such an amazing feature for peace of mind!! I will definitely keep this tidbit of info in mind, in case I should ever < gawd forbid! > be unlucky enough to kill my Vagabond for certain!! *_(knock on wood!)_*

@@adriennewot I am not sure what the problem is, look in the owner's manual for the customer service phone number to get help with your machine. That is how I found out about the pause button. Maybe there is something else that they can tell you to fix the problem with your machine.

What do you do for die cutting your stamped images? With the paper on top of the die I don't know how you could line them up. The magnetic shim sounds great but doesn't seem to do any good if you can't see where your image is at. Help please!

Kens Kreations so buy two expensive machines to do the same job. I have the embosser which is pretty much the same as the Gemini and that is why I have not used it in all the years I have owned it.

I just tried my new Gemini today and I have to say I'm disappointed. Granted that there is some experimentation to be expected. I followed instructions exactly using new Spellbinder thin dies. At first the machine would not even pull the sandwich in. I kept taking it apart and putting it back and still nothing. I finally realized that the top plate has to be almost over the edge of the stack on the machine side or the roller can't grab it. I learned that the magnetic mat is not very strong and your dies will move around, so if you adjust the stack you have to keep checking them. My dies had an outside cutting ring and then an interior die, you want those to be evenly spaced and after the first try I saw they had shifted. Then, the pressure of the machine is so great, it jammed the paper into the die so tight that it was impossible to get some of them out. Others cut fine. I would say two of the seven I was trying cut great, the others it was an ordeal to dig the paper out, even after popping through all the holes on the back. I don't want to do this much work to get a few embellishments. I tried using the metal shim once because these are embossing dies, the die almost cut right through the metal shim. Even though I rotated the cutting plates, they are badly warped after about six trips through the machine. I thought the greater pressure would be great for getting nice cuts that would just fall out like in your example and on the demo on HSN but that was not my experience. I will go back and try again with not using the shim, to see if less pressure will make it work better. But honestly, if it can't cut scrapbook paper without jamming it in so tight I can't get it out, then I'm better off using the Big Shot or the Cricut. I also would like to know about "baking" the plates, does that straighten them back out? What temperature would you use and for how long? Thanks for the info Ken, I always enjoy your videos. I just wish my experience had been as positive as yours.

I'm having the same problems, plus, while straightening out the plates to put through the machine, the metal shim cut one of my fingers quite badly! I'd rather have my old Spellbinders back if my hands were in better health.

I have the same issue. Crafter's Companion said to use a piece of copy paper. That does help on regular cardstock. However, I am still having an issue with mirror cardstock. I am now experimenting with using a craft mat cut to fit the opening. So far, it is working.

I received my CC Gemini three days ago. I was so excited as it was on backorder for a while. Unfortunately, I'm having problems with it. For every 10 tries to get the plates to go through, it only works one. After reading the directions carefully and reviewing the instructional videos on line over and over again, I still don't know what the problem is. Quite frustrated. I called HSN; but the only solution that they have is to send it back, but the item is out-of-stock. Any solutions on the problem?

use less plates. sometimes u have to use the shim. but sometimes u dont. depends on thickness of the die.

I watched the Crafter's companion video on this and she said you can flip it if that is easier for you. You can put the cutting plate on the bottom, then paper, die, and then top plate. Not sure how it then works with the magnetic shim though since I don't think you'd want to cut through that one.

fotofeary6 I own the Gemini & Love it. This is the order I put my plates in when die cutting: Clear Cut Plate, Paper, Die w/ cut sides facing down, Cloudy color Plate, Magnetic Shim, Last the Purple Plate. I hope this helps you. 😊

So I broke out my Gemini Jr for the first time in over a year. I had just gotten it and used it 4 or 5 times, then my craft space was taken over and I had to put a lot of equipment away. Needless to say, it won't cut anything for some reason. I have bought all new plates, shims, etc. Followed the directions in the book. No matter how many times I run it through, it won't cut. Makes noise like it's running the sandwich through fine, but comes out with nothing being cut. Can't return as it's been over a year. Anyone know where I can go to get one repaired? What a waste of so much money. : (

When I try to emboss Anna Griffin dies, it cuts through the embossing mat. Anyone else have this problem?

Try using a Silpat sheet used for baking cookies. It works wonderfully and can be cut to desired size.

That's a great idea. I've not heard of anyone able to use Anna G's dies & was super surprised to see them used here. Where does the Silpat sheet go when using AG's.... Thanks-can't wait to pass this info on.

call Crafters Companion. They will replace your magnetic shim and tell you how to cut AG dies! They have great customer service!

I like the machine but am wondering due to the fact that this is a newer machine they did not include it to be used with the steel ruled dies?!?!? that would be the reason I could not/would not purchase this one.

I was hoping you'd show us how to use the reverse button, but you never did. I'm not sure how to do that. I read my instructions and all it said was which button was the reverse button. I thought that meant if you hit that, it would reverse and pull the sandwich back through, but it doesn't. So, I am not sure how to do that.

In Australia, you get the poor cousin with one crappy die and two minuscule embossing folders. And not many shims/

mine r stuck half way thru. HSn JUST say call crafters companion. they say leave ur phone # & they will call u back. have called 5 times since Feb 5th. no answer. this is now July 16. I have the regular machine with my favorite embossing plate stuck in the big gemini. bought the foiling plate that was supposed to work with the gemini jr. it is stuck half way thru the gemini jr. up date: hold the pause button down until the plates release. now all my machines work.
