Crafting an 'American Homebrew Lager' [Recipe and Tasting]

Mike brings to the table a homebrewer's inspiration, the American Homebrew Lager!
This isn't an official style, but the magic of being a homebrewer is doing whatever you want to make great beer that you love at home.
After brewing the American Lite Lager that used rice solids, I wanted something that was still light and refreshing but had an experimental homebrew character. I really enjoying the ease of making modern lagers with the new type of lager yeast available and NovaLager has risen to the top of my go to lager yeasts.
This beer is simple a blend of two base malts and a touch of aromatic malt. The only hop used was Willamette. I used Willamette because I want something that is similar to Noble hops but aligns to American homebrewing beer recipes.
I also wanted to avoid more popular fruit forward hops so as to not to begin to confuse this beer with an IPL, Cold IPA or whatever light malt lager with extra hops is these days.
Voilà! - my American Homebrew Lager is born! Maybe it's not all that new but is something tasty. Cheers!

Love it! I'm a lager guy at heart. I just can't drink IPA all the time. I make something similar with a 2:1 ratio of 2 Row/Pilsner malt and use Liberty and Crystal hops. Mine fits into category 27 Pre Prohibition Lager. Kind of like an American version of Helles. Can't wait for John's Belgian Pale Ale. Thanks Dudes.

I just brewed something very similar. Used about 20% flaked corn. I thought it would be crap. But I’m really enjoying it!

You guys have got me brewing 5 Litre batches now. I think it’s a great way to try more styles, even though clean up isn’t a whole lot quicker! Latest is an American style. Pilsner-1.2kg, Flaked corn-0.2kg, Columbus (30g total) 3g, 7g, 20g Dry hop. Should be good 👍

I have to setup everything to do my brews and I feel obligated to max things out, so I do 2 - 5 gallon batches on a brew day. I'm in the same boat though. I'd rather do many smaller batches to try stuff these days.

looks tasty....I am not sure if Liberty hops are still around in the US....but it would be interesting to do the beer again using liberty as this was a sort of faux - noble hop but still good..this was at the time when you used Cascade for ale and Liberty for lagers.....life was simpler and thirsts were more easily satisfied...

I just did a wheat with Liberty from Yakima Valley Hops. Came out amazing.

Thanks. What was the mash profile? What temp was the 10 minute whirlpool addition or did you mean a 10 minute boil addition? Getting tired of IPA's and focusing more on lagers.
