Thanks, but I really recommend using resin or other water effect instead of clear caulc for such a piece. At least I you wanna keep the nice light pattern of the bottom of the fountain.

Looks like the new flat has great lighting for your work area . I am working on a couple demon altars and have been stumped on the base. Your fountains have given me some great ideas to adapt for my bases. As always thanks for the inspiration!

@@LandvaettrsLair There is a fabric called 'blackout'. It is white or offwhite but has a rubber backing. It is 54" wide (think that is roughly 1 1/2 meters). You turn the top edge and can staple it if you don't sew. Hang the dowel or rod on cup hooks and it is very easy to put up and take down. Caution - make the covering a good inch bigger than the window so you don't have a tiny sliver of light peek through. In the states it is available in any fabric shop, but you can find it online and it is fairly cheap.

Really like being able to change out the statues gives them a very different look. In wondering if you cut out the bottoms using flat plastic you could tint them blue, green even red to have a blood fountain might be fun to try. Can't wait to see your stop motion stuff. I'm very interested in that.
@LandvaettrsLair
@LandvaettrsLair 5 жыл бұрын
I know right ! I actually wanted to be able to change the bottom as well, and i'm still pretty sure it can be done, though maybe not out of foam... Cutting out the bottom won't work because once poured the resin will adhere to the surface. Since it's made out of very thin and fragile foam it required a solid base, however if you use tougher materials you could build it without a base, then set it on a parchment baking paper and pour the resin. Should be able to detatch it afterwards and be able to change bottoms! Concerning stopmotion i need to get back at it, complète an armature and do a new one since i got better wires than last time. Hopefully you'll see that in a couple of weeks !

@@LandvaettrsLair Was thinking of you cut clear flat plastic to fit in the bottom of the fountain you could make ripples on the bottom side child it whatever you wanted white blue red green ect might be interesting.

@@LandvaettrsLair Hey Landva check out Wyloch's Armory episode 087 Planar Map Room around minute 5:30 I'd the part I mean. If you did the fountain like this you could add ripples on the top part of the clear plastic. The slide in pieces could be any color you wanted kind of a cool way for different looks eh?
@LandvaettrsLair
@LandvaettrsLair 5 жыл бұрын
@@AlexBabcock-hw9iz Yeah that's more or less what I meant, but using resin instead of the plastic sheet, you know, for the depth of the fountain! Wyloch is such a great crafter, he's always been so creative!! I remeber the first modular system I used was his dungeon tiles and addons!

For the fountain water effects coming out of the drain tubes, you could use Fishing Line FYI.

6:04 I recently had to make a couple of wooden balconies and you can gain a lot of time by sculpting the railing as a long bar with a wavy profile and then just cut it like a sausage to end up with identical elements that will repeat along a wall. This is faster than assembling bricks and then filing them down to shape. You can also use these bars as ledges or cornices.
@LandvaettrsLair
@LandvaettrsLair 6 жыл бұрын
Probably, though i'd have less dexterity with these sort of files on a long & flat surface. I'm sure it's super faster with wood to do it beforehand but with foam & such a small piece the filing part at the end was actually pretty fast !
@TheZapan99
@TheZapan99 6 жыл бұрын
The trick is to use a rolled up sheet of sanding paper instead of files to sculpt the profile of the bar. For really fine details, you can even sculpt plastic guides that can be glued to each end and will prevent you from sanding too far into the foam.

Some really interesting ideas here. I particularly like the idea of painting the light patterns on the bottom of the water. As a suggestion, I think that you could sell the idea of sunlit water a bit better if you were to have a higher contrast between the highlights and the base color of the "water" and keep the highlights quite narrow. Now I'm going to have to try that for myself. 8-)
@LandvaettrsLair
@LandvaettrsLair 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah i also think the end result turned a bit opaque and lighter than expected because of the mix of caulc and resin, it dimmed the contrasts. In any case this was my first attempt at reflextions, i'm sure we can improve the result☺️ if you ever post the result on tabletop crafters guild please tag me i'd like to sée the result!! Cheers!

I like using a 2 part epoxy resin for the basic water. It dries nearly perfectly clear. Then, you use a clear quick drying epoxy for the wave effects. Finally, for the water out of the fountain i use clear fishing line, glued into place. Take the two part quick dying epoxy and lightly coat the fishingline. The effect is stunningly realistic. I've had people touch it to see if it was real water.

Thanks ArteManual! Miniatures of kids& women are sculpts by Bobby Jackson, you can buy them on the reapermini website either in plastic (bones)>>www.reapermini.com/search/townfolk/latest/77087 or in metal (DarkHeaven Legends)>> www.reapermini.com/search/townfolk/latest/02825 >>> www.reapermini.com/search/townfolk/latest/03233 , the cleric with the crosier is from there as well.
