Craftsman lt1500 Transmission Drive belt Replacement

Craftsman LT1500 will stall out going up grade because the transmission drive belt is old and worn out. You can switch to a higher gear but as soon as it begins to move it will go too fast. The hardest part is getting the new belt over the pullies and over the idler pully. The trick is drop the transmission and with the chassis on a jack, push the left wheel forward. That will open the gap between the large pully and the chassis frame. Use a prybar to move the idler pully enough to get the belt over the top. Good luck and watch your fingers.

Actually I was about to do the same when I discovered you can just rotate the tranny just enough to get that belt between the pully and the frame.

I was trying to make my lt1500 a race mower but im going back to stock gearing now for torque. I removed the whole fender/floor thing and right now i can easily take the big pully off and replace the belt easily. What size belt goes on there ive bought and returned dozens of belts

Can you detail what you just said about the springs? The big pully is attached to the transmission and sits a fraction of an inch from the chassis. I don't see how you can create a gap between the big pully and the frame just by loosening the idler springs. It just loosens the tension on the belt. Are you talking about getting the belt on in the first place (over the large pully ) or the last step in getting the belt over the smaller idler pully?

@@gerrypineau Put a socket on the nut then use a wobble type extension and an impact gun.. I do it.

I removed the 3 bolts for the bracket that keeps the belt in place and the left side frame nuts and bolts by the wheel to be able to get it off

Is that link still the same belt?

I cant say. Only that I bought that belt and it fit. That was quite a while ago. I will say that it is extremely tight and it took several hours of use before it broke in .
