My neighbor's garden lights were falling apart. Literally. He asked me to remake them for him but I took that one step further and gave them a big design upgrade in this video.
Watch how I reused the plexiglass from his old lanterns to make beautiful new outdoor lights!

Subscribed, mainly because I keep seeing Harbor Freight tools in your hands and at present that's all I can afford! I want to watch someone work with the same tools I can afford and make me feel like I actually -can- 'get away' with them!!
@Craftswright

Hell yeah! There are very few instances where the tool will determine the level of the finished product. It almost always comes down to the person behind the tool. Hence why I changed my logo to the sort of odd/creepy one I currently have... the hand is the tool of all tools :)

A beautiful build. Just had our yard wired for lights and have been looking for a good looking light to build. I really enjoy all the different angels of cuts, and assembling the lights. Nice job thank you for putting this out there!

@@Craftswright Thanks a lot, my friend! You are good people as well! 😊 But yeah, I make videos as well. (Don't bother checking, most of them are in Portuguese.) So I know exactly how you feel when someone post a positive comment. You know? And a negative as well... You know? And if I watch a video, like it and learn something... Why not? 😊

Very nice, I just wish you would’ve included installing the lights. Were the lights plug in or solar? And why the big pvc, I’m assuming for electrical
@kenbeattie1958
@kenbeattie1958 4 жыл бұрын
Looks great! What would you think of making a garden lantern using cheap solar charged lights?
@Craftswright
@Craftswright 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken, I think it could totally work! The biggest hassle you’ll have is either requiring the light so the solar is separate and on top of the lid, or sealing the lid if you end up just recessing the light into the lantern
@The-Black-Viking
@The-Black-Viking 11 ай бұрын
I'm making exactly that. Solar lightboxes.

hwere did you get a pneumatic stapler small enough to fit inside the lantern?

I think the optical illusion of it being square but not looking square is called ‘it’s going too well, what have I screwed up’ism’. It can also be seen in length, width height, twist, and cupping illusions.... :)

It’s Oregon. There are - on average - 20,000-30,000 of those “eight legged micro tenants” in every acre.

They look truly great ('Japanese' indeed). 2 things: - make the covers skew, so water will run off - I noticed a (small) gap underneath the cover - seal that off with e.g. insulation-tape, as it will prevent insects and spiders to squat the lanterns (yet, make some ventilation-holes, so heat can get out)

Yes, even a slight bevel will help with drainage. Otherwise water will just collect and either rot or mold up the top. BUT, still a very nice renovation of these lights and I love the design.

Wood is terrible when constantly fighting the rain and cold weather. If you char the inside and give it a coat, it will last longer. Using a plastic coating on the outside is better than varnish.
