Same!! I've been sewing (on a machine) since I was 15 (so for 16 years now) and back then I didn't see a lot of black girls doing this! I recommend Brother, but I'm super biased since that's all I've ever used lol but most sewing machines operate the same way and only really differ in how you load the bobbin, so while you definitely don't need the most expensive one, especially just starting out, any brand is going to get the job done. I would also recommend getting some pinking sheers to cut your fabrics because it will save you many headaches. Pinking sheers have a zigzag edge to keep your fabric from fraying. Woven cottons are easiest to sew, and using clips (I use binder clips) instead of pins to keep your fabric in place also helps A LOT! I hope you get your sewing machine soon and have a lot of fun! 😊

@des2139 Awww!! You're so welcome!! You're going to have so much fun with it! If you run into problems, just search your brand and model to find a fix! Most brands have official youtube accounts with tutorials, and I know most Brother machines also come with dvds to walk you through set up if you have anything that can play dvds!

Oooh!! I have that same sewing machine model!!! Make sure you treat her well!!! (And treat her to plenty of cute stickers) A can of air used for electronics is a good way to clean the insides of it when thread particles start to coat the mechanisms as a tip btw!💕👌

I haven't finished the video yet so you might fix the problems with the stitches but commenting so I don't forget. 😭 If you're still having problems with the stitches it might be an issue with the tension and/or the length of the stitches or type of stitch. The knobs you twisted in the beginning change both of those which is what made me think of that. Ive only been sewing for a year and learning how my machine worked was the most intimidating and frustrating part for me. KZbin videos have been my saving grace. My brain just cannot do the written manuals. I also I love this video sm the captions are so relatable ❤

I use Scotch poster tape, but I would say it only doesn't damage prints made on smoother paper. anything textured I'd worry about with it 🥲 I've seen people use blu tack putty before!
