Cathy Hughes Hi Cathy - you would need to start with card stock that measured 8-3/4 by 11 inches. Use the same score lines for the long side but score the short side at 1-1/2, 5-3/4 and 8-1/4 inches. - This should make it 1/2 inch higher. Hope this helps.

what kind of paper do you have to use in order to make a semi medium square box and how do you know which type of paper is a right fit to carry the weight of your item though?. Paper density is measured in grams per square meter or GSM. Higher the GSM, higher the thickness, higher the load bearing capacity. Cardstock ranges from 200 GSM (flyers) to 400 GSM (business cards). For boxes that need to carry significant weight, boards of same range of density are also available with suppliers. You can search online for suppliers of folding box boards in your area/country. 200 GSM onward is used for things like cake boxes. Medical supplies use 250 GSM. For really high loads like garments, 600 GSM folding box boards. These boards are also called Duplex boards. They typically come in white/grey, white/white, brown. Printing cost would be extra. You could always confirm with supplier. The Stamping Up cardstock ranges from 200 - 300 GSM depending on color. That's what I understand. I think black and plain white can be 250+, other colors maybe thinner or thicker. With the type of reinforcement that the bottom flaps of the box give, 250+ GSM should be able to easily support the jam jar shown here. I think it is a 6 oz jar?
