Young musicians are so fortunate to have KZbin. Back in the 80s when I was learning to play everything was learned by trial and error. You had no idea what controls did, what effects pedals sounded like, or how amps would perform…you just bought something random and messed around with it. If you couldn’t figure it out you would sell it 😂
@rainy55179 ай бұрын
Aw man, tbh I can't imagine how hard it must have been learning the guitar in the 80s, especially if you don't have guitarists around you
@YungAirheadOfficial8 ай бұрын
I knew from the start that KZbin wasn't gonna be very helpful for me, so I went with the old-school method of trial & error. The result was my dream sound.

I'll admit it, I'm just a software engineer, and I'm helping out a friend with a Noise Box project (with a piezo pickup) and *I* hadn't a clue of the difference between vibrato and tremolo. So, YES, some people (like me) do need to hear this. Makes perfect sense now! Thanks!

My daughter got interested in guitar. Long story short, she heard "Ride on Shooting Star" and now she wants to play electric guitar. She was given an old Mako TB1. I found an old Magnatone 412 in my uncle's garage, no idea why he had an amp. Anyway, the amp powers up, but needs some TLC before I let her plug in and use it. I'm glad I found this video. Everything I know about amps, I just learned here, lol.
@ivankrushensky3 ай бұрын
Tips/pitfalls I learned the hard way back in the day: Speaker cables and instrument cables are different, even though they look the same. So if you're connecting an amp head to a cabinet, make sure you actually purchase a speaker cable to connect the two. It is designed to carry the load from the amp to the cabinet. An instrument cable is used to plug the guitar into the amp head. Second, if you get a really cool sound out of your amp in your bedroom and you go to play with buddies and you're sound just disappears or is not very crisp/clear once everyone is playing, try turning your Mids up. Don't make the mistake of turning the volume up. A guitar is a midrange instrument. "Scooping the mids" can sound really cool when you're playing by yourself, but in a live situation it can sound like a hissy-muddy mess and you can't distinguish notes anymore.

Excellent video, just have one issue, you refer to the guitar pickups as picking up the acoustic sound of the guitar. They don't, they convert the string vibrations in a magnetic field to an electrical signal. Unless of course you're unfortunate enough to have microphonic pickups which are a pain

Different amps are radically different in the way the EQ knobs work, I've found. On Marshalls I always find myself turning the Treble to about 2, bass at about 4, sometimes less, mids at about halfway. Which is completely counter-intuitive. You really have to use your ears and never mind how odd the EQ settings might end up being visually. Lots of amps are like that where you pretty much get max treble/bass pretty low on the knob and any more you add just adds icepick and/or fart.

As far as I know, pickups on an electric guitar don't actually pickup acoustic noise (pressure waves) like a microphone. They pickup the oscillating electric current generated by the strings motion within the pickups' magnetic field.

My guess is the tone is low midrange, maybe dead center midrange. The tone is warm, robust, and a bit growly. It kinda sounds like a rhino to me.
