Quilting is more than just a creative outlet. It has the power to heal. The repetitive motion of stitching can be meditative, calming the mind and reducing stress. Quilting can also be a form of therapy, providing comfort and solace in difficult times. It is pure and simple love.

Oh Lord, I know that this video is older, but for while I couldn't stop crying. I feel your pain and anguish, and hearing you talk about your lost made me think of my many loses. I'm so thankful for your channel. Thank you for trusting your viewers enough to share what you normally hide. You are healing even if you are not aware of it. This video is the proof. I watch and give the thumbs up with every video I see. I suffer from constant pain, and some days are better than others. I crochet, spin yarn and sew. I'm teaching myself to sew. Eventually I will make a quilt using everything that you have taught. May God continue to bless and keep you and your loved ones, always. Love and healing hugs.

Before my mother passed away, she and I worked on a cross-stitch quilt pattern. We lived in different states and compared notes constantly. When all the blocks were finished, she sent me the blocks that she had worked on and I made a large quilt for her which stayed on her bed until her passing. My siblings sent the quilt back to me and I decided to take it apart and divide it up into 6 lap sized quilts and gave one to each of my brothers and sister and kept one for myself. Then, we could all have happy memories of our mother as she used the quilt for several years and loved it! It gave me great joy remembering all the good times with my mother while I redesigned the quilt to benefit each of her children.

I can relate for sure and I appreciate you opening up because it can help others to talk about or even just continue to process how they’re feeling. Last summer I purchased some patriotic fabric on a beach trip to make a quilt for my veteran brother. He died a week after we got home. The fabric is still sitting here waiting for me. I think I’ll make it and give it to his daughter. But I just need it to not feel so heavy first. Soon. God is so good! ❤

Yes Karen, God is very good💕 I love the way you cuddled and gently touched your sister’s beautiful quilt. In time perhaps, you will be reminded of the many beautiful memories, each time you gaze upon it. Quilting and a quilt itself are very therapeutic for all of us. I have one for my young brother who died in a horrible accident yrs ago and one I made for my Dad when he passed. I almost lost my husband last November, and when I was able to leave the hospital, I came home and wrapped myself in his quilt, saturating it with the many tears and gratitude of the wonderful man God blessed me with 52 years ago. It was my comfort along with our family. May you continue your journey of healing thru your quilting. It is a beautiful, special time and journey.💕🙏🏻🧵 Happy! Happy Quilting💕🎉🎉🎉🎉🧵🪡

I definitely understand your feelings about the quilt. My dad died 12 years ago and I have just finished working on a quilt using fabric that I helped him pick out for curtains. I’m crying with you because I totally understand. I have 1, my very first, made with my grandmother, she made me promise to finish it after her passing. I did, in the wee hours of the morning all alone in my room I cut the last thread of the binding and held it close and just sobbed uncontrollably. It now hangs proudly in my house, as ugly as it is. It has shown me how far I’ve come and the love and memories just fabric and thread holds. The next one was my youngest brother. I finished his birthday quilt 3 months before his untimely death at the age of 36 in Dec of 2018. I made a memory quilt for him on Valentine’s day, 2019, my blocks are horrible, but it is the best quilting I’ve done to date. They were both healing for me as well. Quilting gives me POWER to deal with things that are out of my control. Almost everything I make is improv, as I have trouble with patterns. I’ve started to design my own and have 2 so far. Thank you so much for sharing your story.!

You have such a beautiful soul 💞 I’m sorry for your loss. Just hold on to the wonderful memories. When my Mom passed away I made each of us four kids a quilt from her clothing. While making them I laughed, I cried, I mourned and many other emotions but it was very therapeutic. As I sewed I was healing little by little day by day. My siblings didn’t know I was making them and when I presented it to them all three of them cried. They were elated that they had a quilt from the clothing she used to wear. And, they were beautiful if I say sew myself! 💞😂 Happy quilting and I love your videos!!!

Karen, I had started a quilt for my father before he got sick. When he got sick, he had lung cancer. For a long time, every time I touched it, all I could do was cry. One day I picked it up cuddled it and I could hear my dad say suck it up, get it done. I finished it that day. I cried all through finishing it. When I took it to get it long armed the lady lrt me do it, as I was coming to the end I asked her to write Daddy in the quilting. I am so glad that I finished it. When I am snuggled up in it, I talk to my dad. I sometimes think I am crazy because I swear I hear my dad talking back to me. So maybe your quilt could be a blessing also just like mine. Thank you for being so real. And also for sharing your story. Stay strong.

I am sorry for your loss. I lost 4 older brothers and my youngest sister in less than a year. I was overwhelmed emotionally, I went to visit my daughter to recoup. She ended up with a cancer diagnosis the day I was to fly home. I ended up staying with her 8 months through treatments. She is now 6 yrs. cancer free . I began to make baby quilts as a way to cope with the stress . I ended up getting to donate over 30 quilts to a hospital caring for babies born addicted. My donation was anonymous but I felt joy knowing these precious babies were possibly receiving some comfort from those quilts. Ironically I had my own cancer diagnosis 18 months ago. Sewing is my therapy as I am still recovering from treatments. The quilt is lovely. Wrap yourself in the warmth and the sweet memories.

Karen thank you for your sharing. My sewing & my crocheting are both therapeutic for me. It’s therapy for me in the loss of my dear Mom that taught me and we enjoyed some time doing it together. It’s my quiet and relaxing time to enjoy and share my art with others through the gifts I give. My mom always enjoyed making homemade gifts too and I smile at the thought that now I’m so similar in that sense. KZbin has been such a blessing for me because it’s people like you that I watch and listen while I sew as if we’re doing it together. I don’t know anyone in person that sews and it’s nice to have this online community of similar people to share what we enjoy and cheer each other up. I had bought an embroidery kit to work on when my mom was in the hospital, I cannot get myself to do it also. It’s been four years since she passed, right before Covid and sometimes days are more difficult than others. My mom was 92 and I still wanted more time with her. I try to believe she’s always in my heart and right next to me smiling at me and proud of my sewing work:) Please don’t apologize for being emotional, it’s good to be honest and be yourself. Thank you for your videos 💐

Dear Karen Again, P.S. I’m empathizing with your pain and suffering personal trauma, quilting therapy, hiding it. No one knows that l still get mad at myself, the sewing machine, my usually comforting fabric, and it’s all because of that blasted fire their deaths their deaths that WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! Of course l realize l didn’t cause them to happen. But… l guess l blame myself and for some really crazy reason my sewing machine and fabric and quilting because it all meant/means so much to me. After my son and his family died in our home’s fire l blamed the beautiful large bed quilts l had lovingly so beautifully made for him because they’d been under something heavy under their bed and been protected! A few days after the fire she was digging around, discovered them and tenderly, devotedly, fondly presented them to me. They mean so much to me and I love those quilts because he loved and cherished them and l’d made them especially for him. But at the same time that first year l’d occasionally see them and be upset, mad at them for being here and not my son. Then when my daughter died l didn’t feel the same way about her quilts. Why, l can’t fathom. Now I love and cherish them all and can now use them enjoy the love and comfort of them, even if sometimes a little pain and anger and grief sneak in… A little bit

I just found your channel this week. I am just beginning to quilt. Your first video that I found, I thought you were so talented. You are creative in piecing your quilts together. I knew I could learn from you. I understand about quilts having memories attached to them. First of all, I am so sorry for your loss of your little sister. I have a quilt that my sister made after our parents both passed away. My mother had made quilts for all 8 of us. My mother had a quilt she had only started on. My oldest brother was ill and my sister asked him if he would like her to finish that quilt for him. She was almost finished, but he died before she could finish and give it to him. My sister brought the quilt to me and said she wanted me to have it, since I was the one who was looking after him. I didn’t use it at first, but now I have it on the quilt rack that he had made. He gave it to me before he died. I put it on my bed and use it. It helps me to remember my mother who was so generous in her quilt making, my brother who was waiting to enjoy it, and my sister who lovingly finished it as a gift . Think of that quilt as a process in dealing with your grief. The quilt is beautiful! You are smiling now as you show it. Good for you wanting to use it now!!! God is good! Think of your sister and smile when you start using that gorgeous quilt! Hugs to you! From Judy

Thank you. Hearing you tell all the things you think and feel about the loss of your sister are the exact things I think and feel about the loss of my sister in 2021. Exactly. And I still cry if I think about her. My cousin gave me some of her clothes to use to make a quilt about her. I am about to get started on it. You have given me the gumption to get started on it. Thank you for all your videos.

I was so touched by your story. I could relate to your emotions as I had those same when my brother passed, he was just 35 and I was 25. As for quilting... I got hooked on quilting in the 90's, I fell in love with it!!! Unfortunately, I got Lyme disease and it real.ly messed up my brain for decades, so I made a quilt here and there, very few. Finally, last fall I got hooked again and it was to be my therapy as I am now stuck in the house (alone most of the time) due to wet macular degeneration. Unfortunately, because of the vision loss I rip out my stitches many times over before I get decent results. I say I make perfectly imperfect quilts. It is very hard on me, but I cannot give up as I can't do much of anything with the vision loss. I need to find a way to accept where I am at calmly and just keep going as long as I can. (I really hate putting all of this out in the public, but wanted to share with you. BTW, Lyme still messes with my brain. ) Happy quilting!

Thank you for sharing your story it’s lovely to see that even though things are not perfect that you still find a way to quilt quilting brings about a peace in us, remember it does not have to be perfect as long as it’s close enough it will be good enough. The imperfections makes it perfect❤️

Speaking these feelings and thoughts aloud is so therapeutic also, releases so much that we hold in. The quilt is so beautiful, your smile is too! Enjoy your quilt and the therapy it brings to work through the emotions we need to get through. ♥️. I love the way I can think through things while working on my quilts, and sometimes totally escape a bit.

Thank you for sharing. ❤ I do agree quilting is therapeutic. I am still grieving quietly. Getting back to quilting has back to quilting has been spotty at best. I was given 2 boxes of my daughter’s clothes to make a quilt………. I still cannot open the boxes….it’s been 10 years. One day I will. And it will be different but it will be ok.
@CraftyQuiltingDesigns
@CraftyQuiltingDesigns 3 ай бұрын
Think of it this way when you open those boxes, she will be giving you hugs every time you use the quilt made from her clothes and the memory will be of a close connection rather than emptiness. i pray that you will she has been waiting to give you a hug for 10 years.... it's about time to say ok and receive. I pray that you do, all the love Karen

I was living in Sydney in 2008 and I had bought cross-stitch to make. I moved back to UK because my mum went into a nursing home with dementia. Anyway, long story short, I have never completed the cross stitch because I am suffering from grief of having left Sydney but mum was very important to me and I am grateful for the time I spent with mum. I can’t go back to Aus because I my visa ran out. So I can’t complete my cross stitch.

So strange I've viewed this before, it suddenly came up again. It's going on 14 mths I've been taking care of mommy. Every morning I come around that corner holding my breath not knowing! Quilting has always been therapeutic for me. I rush nothing. Mommy sewed all her life. She's bed ridden now and lives vicariously through my work now. I was lucky enough to retire (from healthcare) in order to take care of her. 4 generations under one roof ❤😊.
