I think Ralf had a playing style that he honestly thought was going to work before he took the job. The problem was when he got the job, I don't think he realised just how unfit the players were, and he didn't have his own coaching staff so he had to rely on Ole's staff to also up gears, which they couldn't. Then he's trying to ask the players, who are divas, to up gears, and they couldn't. He's got Phelen and Fletcher who are the player's buffers, so it seems like Ralf isn't even allowed to communicate directly with the players. He wasn't backed in the transfer window so he's basically in a position where he's got to suck up to players to try to get a team and performances to scrape some decency. These are challenges that Ralf probably shared with Ten Hag at some point, hence Ten Hag's drawn out negotiations on all the backroom aspects. United appointed an interim manager, then never supported him.
