@@latheofheaven "Most of us" doesn't include me. Some comics just shout. Conan is the worst. I think most of the SNL bunch for the last couple decades were shouters. I've always presumed it's vaudeville/early comic throw back. In days of old (and still today), comedians present(ed) the least energy of any performer. One guy, one voice. No instruments, no singing, no dancing, just a voice. So they tend(ed) to dress more elaborately and generally have a "Bigger affect", including that shouting that Scott and I find distracting. Think Gallagher, or Rip Taylor, even George Carlin vs Bob Newhart, or Johnny Carson. Similar reason that early voice over actors sounded like they were shouting when they read news reel copy and similar. They had to get their voice from HERE to WAY OVER THERE, where that early crystal mic was mounted. And all of that was a throwback to early stage plays. Shakespeare and similar era actors had to fill an auditorium, often out of doors, with their voices. Everyone tended to sound like Gunny. They just NEEDED to be loud.

@@CraigLumpyLemke Fascinating... Good history mate! I think you are right about the reasons most of these ones had to 'Shout' However, like any comedy, and of course as you say it *IS* a matter of taste, but whatever 'method' is used *IF* used effectively, can indeed be very funny. I have a feeling that it is likely that you have something in your personal background where any 'Shouting' is distasteful to you. We all certainly have things like that. But, like I say, whatever comic schtick is used, if done cleverly or artfully CAN be very funny to those who appreciate it. I do agree, if people are just randomly 'Shouting' just to be doing so, then yeah, that would be pretty stupid. I personally feel the same way about cussing in comedy. For my personal taste and from what I've heard, MOST of the ones do it in a way that I feel is just indiscriminate and pointless and NOT funny, just doing it to be DOING it. For me, I feel not only is it NOT funny, but many times it is insulting to one's intelligence. However, there are a FEW exceptions where I feel the WAY they cuss can be very effective and funny, but not most. Perhaps it is the same way or similar with you about shouting... It's interesting that there are ones here on the CF threads, who have scorned and ridiculed those who have said that they feel that the 'bleeped out' cussing on Craig Ferguson's show is funnier than just hearing uncensored comics dropping F-bombs everywhere, and I happen to agree. Some get all bent out of shape about 'Censorship' But, to me it has absolutely NOTHING to do with that. I actually do find it funnier the way it is bleeped out on CF' show. But, others don't see it. So, there you go... Different tastes, I guess... Just my too sense... 😊
