Had a colleague - a young engineer - who had been to Sirius for two years. Also served in Iraq. He had the bug and was going to leave again. He just missed the challenge and the wide open expanse of wilderness and the close knit brotherhood of the unit. He was a pretty quiet and modest guy, tall and lanky, but tough as old boots. Just built different, I suppose. When I served myself in the RDA back in the late 80s, one of my friends in the unit wanted to go. He had that same quiet determination without the showoff gung ho Rambo mentality which just doesn't cut it on the icy expanses of North East Greenland. It takes a special kind.

A dane here and i watched these episodes in TV. Just seriously some of the most amazing stuff i've watched. And just imagine the experience these guys get, and how tough these guys need to be. Once youre out there, there's no giving up. ngl their story about Pelle just made me emotional once again.

Loosening the dogs is not for them to take off home on their own, it enables the dogs to survive in the snow. But they have to stay close to the sled because otherwise the sled team is doomed.

@@CombatReadyHQ I have a mate in the Danish Frømandskorps, who says he would not survive in Sirius. Not that he is not tough and fit, but he is the kind of guy always making jokes, teasing, etc- the kind you really want in your patrol/group, but not the kind of guy you want to be alone on the ice for four months with. he also hates cold and prefers jungles, but refuse to say if he has operated in any ;-) Anyway. I lived in Greenland, it is a very special place that you should definately visit- or even better live in. Greenlandic summer is special, Greenlandic winter is special, greenlandic spring is special, Greenlandig autumn is special. I recommend Sisimiut, where i lived, and there is always a use for people of skill and willingness to work up there. Gods I miss it.

Greenland is a magnificent and an unforgiving place. Our King, then Crown Prince Frederik participated in a 2795 km trip with the Sirius patrol, back in February of 2000. Despite being a member of the Danish Special Forces, he learned one or two things about the arctic survival. There is a documentary from his trip, called Expedition Sirius 2000. Here's a teaser in English: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anq9aZyufZVra9k

I you can fit it in somehow you should do a reaction to the selection process. It’s like episode 0 to this series. We meet some of the people as they apply for Sirius and finish the course and training. One of the guys that makes it through is “ youngest man in episode 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIi4ip1orbRrndUsi=mvSDceaqBzc3I_58

@@CombatReadyHQ Well, the first name in the credits at the end is for "Instruktør & fotograf: Lasse Rahbek" - that is 'Director & photographer: Lasse Rahbek'. I would guess that he did handheld and drone shots, but I am nowhere near educated enough on this kind of photography to be sure. For the drone shots I am guessing that Lasse is lying flat on the sled covered mostly by a tarp or maybe just in dark clothes. 14:25 in this shot it looks like there is a white light on top of the sled, which I think might be the screen showing the scene being shot with the drone - the very white landscape.
