@HughD3 жыл бұрын
You can also pair these to your phone directly via Bluetooth and skip the hub which means you can have a button in your car to do things like send a quick "I'm on the way home" text or even run an Alexa routine. In the US texts aren't free, but only cost 5 cents each which is worth it if you need the capability. You can also send your current location and other things with just a button press...pretty cool. Oh, you don't want to pair this way in your house because when you're away with your phone, no buttons in your house will work because they're now out of Bluetooth range of your phone. So a hub for inside buttons and the phone for outside buttons. #sharethelove
@CraigsTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Hello Hugh, I like the suggestion and the way you are all over these things. That is great. I like the idea of one in the car connected to the phone. I think I have to steal that. I am going to try and see how many different places I can put these. That is a good point about not pairing your house that way. Like you said, that is where the hub is needed. Thanks for sharing some great information. Have a good day Hugh.

@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for the kind words, Craig. I have a Flic in my car now which will open/close my garage door and also turn on/off my driveway and front porch lights. The only problem with this setup is you have to have decent cell service near your house or it won't work. You can do all sorts of things like only have the opener work during daytime/evening hours and not in the middle of the night. To me, it's much more secure than a regular opener remote you'd have in your car as when you're out of Bluetooth range of your phone it simply won't work. This stuff is fun.

Really love the set up interface with these, but it seems a lot of money when compared with the IKEA Shortcut buttons, which also need a hub to connect with HomeKit? Sure, you only get two controls (short press, long press) compared to three with Flicc, but they’re a lot cheaper. Does the Flicc button offer any additional features beyond the three controls?

@CraigsTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
Hello Tiffany, what they are working with Alexa routines. Alexa routines work across your devices and is cloud based. The buttons pair to the hub. Flic buttons show up as a routine trigger option. Nothing connect just to an individual echo. The beauty of being a cloud based system.
@dnoland773 жыл бұрын
Till the price drops a little I'll keep using my echo buttons but I'm so glad that this product exists. If I didn't already have buttons I would buy right now.
@utuber10003 жыл бұрын
It is hard to feel motivated to buy these. The idea is to use a button instead of your voice, but in order to do so you have to purchase a special hub. With the hub, you get 3 buttons, each of which can only execute 3 commands, so the cost for executing 9 commands with your finger costs $160 plus $7 shipping from the Flic website; whereas you can buy an Echo Dot (3rd Gen) on sale for $30 that executes ALL of the Alexa voice commands. At first I thought it would be nice to have a button to turn off the light on my nightstand if I forgot to do so before putting on my CPAP mask, but for this price I'll just continue to tell Alexa to set sleep timer for 5 minutes with bed lamp beforehand. Cute idea but I think this company needs a new marketing plan!

I have not used the IKEA buttons yet. The thing I like is the flexibility and the reliability of them. For me, I want to have things work with all assistants when possible. Never know when it is worth taking advantage of one of the other assistants. I don't think the price is bad per button compared to others. I do need to try the ikea buttons. Thanks Craig for this excellent review! Being able to use the flic 2 buttons for my new Alexa routines will be really helpful. I haven’t gotten used to my vocal commands for all of my routines. I am half way in my dark room before I remember what to say to turn on the lights! This should be my memory building exercise, but frankly, I would rather push a button to get into my room with lights ! Craig is it possible to use flic 2 with speaker groups ??? I can’t seem to get a routine to utilize more than one speaker at a time. Thanks again for all of your tech reviews. I love them!
@CraigsTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there is no way I know of to trigger groups. I don't think is going to help with that. What you could try doing is use a custom command step in your routine. Try typing what you would normally say, "Play TYPE OF MUSIC on NAME OF GROUP". Custom commands are meant to fill that void for actions. Hope that helps.

The problem is turning this light off, because if I ask herself to do that while in the room then the motion sensor turns them back on again. If we actually take the time to setup actions and routines with our smart apps then all of these same actions can be completed with one touch in the apps instead of purchasing another device and hub for even more wasted money! But yet we’re all so excited 🤪
@CraigsTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
You would buy these so you don’t have to open any app. It’s not a waste of money if your goal is to remove voice and needing the phone from the equation. The best routine can be activated by my 8 year old or my 80 year old mother in-law without needing to have a smart device or know the command to trigger the routine. I think some people who get into smart homes are excited because touch is quicker for a lot of things. Voice and apps are so inefficient for a lot of things in a smart home.

That is awesome Larry. You had to challenge my eyes. No button will beat them. Thanks for showing Brian some love.

The deep you get into the smart home, the more you appreciate the simplicity of the old ways that still work best.

#sharethelove it's great that you guys promote each other's channels even though you don't agree on everything. It's important to gain knowledge from different perspectives. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Robert. I totally agree. No one should listen to just me. You should definitely get all the opinions you can. Thanks for sharing the love.

Doesn't anyone make a cheap wireless switch to control smart lights and it looks like a regular light switch?

Can you press once to turn lights on, and then press once again to turn lights off?
@faengelm3 жыл бұрын
You can by using the Flic button with a Philips Hue bridge
@davidmercer77673 жыл бұрын
I would like to know the same or would it be a case of one press for on and double press for off?
@HughD3 жыл бұрын
It's a "toggle" function and works on Hue Bulbs and LIFX and maybe a couple of other brands, but things like ZWave wall switches don't support it.

Way to expensive and need another hub. The SmartThings Buttons work great and are cheaper. Hopefully they become available again thru Aeotec

I #sharethelove across quite a few 'tech' YT channels. And am eagerly watching whether it will be you (Craig) or Brian at Automate Your Life who hits the 100k subscriber base first.

Hello Paul, that is awesome you are sharing the love across the tech community. I do appreciate it. Yeah, Brian and I are so close. I hope we can hold hands and cross the 100k finish line at the same time. 😀👍
