Cus he is an activist and virtue signaller. He didn't want people to "understand" little people he wanted everyone to be depressed for little people, even when Tony himself was having a good time. If anything is not done his way, he hates it or can't comprehend it. The kids were learning and enjoying swamp things which is what he always wanted but because he is an activist he is never satisfied unless he feels good fighting for a cause. Self absorbed would be the right term.
