Crandon Park
Located on Key Biscayne, Crandon Park Beach is one of the best beaches in Miami, though its popularity is often overshadowed by the glitz of the mythical South Beach.
Crandon Park beach is divided into two distinct areas; the northern part, with more waves, is frequented by surfers, while the southern part, with white sand and calm waters, is usually the place where families and couples go above all.
One of the advantages of this beach is that it has an area full of palm trees under which to take shelter on hot summer days and also dozens of tables and grills for those who choose to eat by the beach. Another of Crandon Park Beach's conveniences is that it has a huge car park right in front.
Crandon Park has a rich history; years ago it housed a huge coconut plantation and was home to Indian tribes, soldiers and pirates. A zoo was established in 1947 with the intention of turning the area into a major tourist destination, and in 1981 the Crandon Zoo was moved to South Miami to become the Miami Metrozoo.
