Rigging contractor 40+ years--here's my take on it. What occurred: A1. Far side on left end failed first, causing the bar to upend. A2. Near side on left reacted, sliding & cutting sling at outrigger beam. Mistakes made: B1. Basketing the sloping part of outrigger beams makes slings slide easily. B2. Did not monitor level lifting with cranes (B1 issue). B3. Shackles with basket slings are too small to properly contain them. B4. Sling size, condition, and proper protective pads???.

Look at the video image by image. At 2:51 you can see a rope forming a double loop at the left-hand corner of the hoist. The rope breaks at the bottom, and the two broken ends rapidly shoot up. Astonishingly. the load does not drop at once; probably the rope at the other side still holds. When that side breaks by overload, the left end of the load starts to drop. The camera has recorded that perfectly; no further evidence on the cause is needed. The crane drivers made no errors. The rope was either of a type too weak for the task, or a correctly chosen rope with an unnoticed defect.

thats true,a crane optr.can be a taxi driver, but a taxi driver can't be a crane optr. its a big name seaboard marine. big company but a small brain crane operator, you need to study about rigging and the proccedure to operate. in rigging their is a sling load factor (SLF)but you need to know the formula, cable, and shackle capacities,etc. and you'll be safe...

@wrcummings12 жыл бұрын
I'll bet the strap on the on the far left side failed first. the left front cables go straight right at the spreader bar that's why I think so. The right side cables slid of the strap rubber pads and cut themselves loose on the sharp metal beam edges when the slipped to the right off of the rubber pads. That's my take! they should have lifting lugs on the top of each beam with no straps in use. That way they may have gotten away with loosing one leg strap and not dumping the whole damn load.
@kalament196911 жыл бұрын
I do this for a living.. Nothing is ever 100% on a job like this.. beat practice is to check all the equipment and rigging prior to the lift and ALWAYS overrig your load!! Equipment can always fail.. be careful out there!
@tumuhogz12 жыл бұрын
Its a riggers mistakes! The sling is enough to lift but the rigger rap a basket hitch to the load without a mats. The beam while the sling attached are sharp and the load is heavy resulting to broke the sling.
