First time I come across the use of a Beckett was many years ago and thought it was the most genius thing I had ever seen ! 😊 Have seen a lot since, and still think it's pretty cool! Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍 👍

Fantastic job explaining how the rope terminates. I think I still have some learning to do before I could fill in for you if you needed a break from the seat though :). Keep um coming- they are always entertaining and educational.

Thank you for posting another video about the equipment! Glad i chimed in with recommendations on the live stream. The only way i could possibly learn more about cranes/rigging is by being shown in person. You do a good job at explaining things for the layman lol Got interested in your channel because of a crane company/contractor that operates a few blocks away from the dealership i work at. Constantly see the booms in the air moving gear around their yard.

The South 803, I'm glad you chimed in too. If there's ever anything in particular you want to see, let me know. You should go down to the crane company and ask for a tour. There's so much more to cranes and crane work than people realize. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

Awesome! Always amazed me that the only thing holding the ball/pill and ultimately the load, was simple friction from that wedge socket/Beckett. And they can be changed out so quickly bcz it’s so simple. Same principle as PT cable wedges and the old Chinese handcuff gag. The more it pulls, the tighter it gets. 👉👉👍
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
psidvicious, absolutely! I wish I would've been the one who invented the wedge socket/Beckett. Pretty much every crane on the planet uses one. With exception of those with a button on the end. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

I asked about Beckett’s and cable a while ago. We could make a video when you’re in Chicago about when the cable shoots out of the Beckett when you’re trying to seat the wedge and the cable whips into your shins!! Lol 1-1/4” cable leaves a hell of a welt!
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
Richard Savaglio, I'll skip the getting whacked in the shins with 1 1/4 inch cable, thanks! Lol. Also, I'm not sure when we are heading to Chicago now. We are slammed at work, and I can't take off. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

Great vid 👍 👍 im kinda surprised it doesn't have level wine on it even though I know you shouldn't need them probably be just one more thing to brake
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
Josh Welner, I'm not sure what "level wine" is. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

@@ToTheTopCrane some of the boat I've worked on have a thing that guides the wire/rope, evenly/level on to the drum. Thanks for the video
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
Josh Welner, ahhhh...that makes sense. All that keeps a crane rope even is the weight from the ball or block.

Thanks Jimmy, another enjoyable & educational video. I might have asked this before, but is there a difference between the main and auxiliary winches in load capacity?
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
Sandy, both winches have the same capacity. Thanks for the compliment, and for watching! 🙂👍

I have no idea what I just watched. Do you make this stuff up as you go?
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
G4 Outdoors, think of the winch as a bait casting reel and the beckett as a swivel or another way of attaching the terminal tackle. Hope that helps! 👍. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
@waltermattson55666 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jimmy. Can the crane lift the same amount regardless of how much rope you have out? Does the amount of rope on the drum change the “gearing” enough to matter?
@ToTheTopCrane6 жыл бұрын
walter mattson, mechanically it would have more torque available as the rope was payed out, and the drum got smaller. However, it is limited by the computer to a line pull of 16,750 lbs. That 16,750 lbs is available regardless of how much rope is out. On some cranes, the chart will show available line pull based on how many layers are on the drum. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
@richardsavaglio6616 жыл бұрын
walter mattson I probably shouldn’t say this but on the 20t truck cranes we can sorta kinda cheat on that linepull if we are right at the limit and still can’t make the pick. We run some more boom out so that we can peel more line of the drum.

I won’t tell.

Can you please make a video of you hooking up the quick disconnect becket to a ball or block.

Lorne H, I can. I'll probably include it with something else though. It literally takes only seconds to make that connection to the ball. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
