Loved POISON since elementary school. C.C. deville inspired me to play the guitar.

Peanut Butter Platypus! Somehow you guys know the band I want to hear you talk about before you even upload. Happened with Megadeth and now Poison. Loved the podcast! The debut will always be my personal favourite due to that reverb heavy production and classic songs.

They get less hate today. That's good. Their first three albums and the live disc are great. Does anyone know why they changed their name from Paris to Poison after the demo and before they released the debut?

i have been told that they changed the name based on the denials they were getting from labels when shopping paris. they did a set for epic records, and were told that in addition to the songs not being strong, the name was terrible for marketing.

This band was my gateway to all things metal. Native tongue is my fave. Ritchie Kotzen was fantastic on this. Stand and bastard son are ace. Love flesh and blood too.

This gives me hope that there'll be a cheap trick ranking in the future.

hollyweird is a terrible album. there was a fantastic interview about 15 years ago with rikki, where off the cuff, he talked about hollyweird being a hostage situation where bret dictated that if he didn't get to be the producer, and have the album recorded in his home studio, with his songs, that there wasn't going to be a poison album. the songs stink, and recording is awful, and it showed how a band like poison has to have a producer at the helm to call bret on his bs. that album is nothing but re-worked fallen angel's, and awful music. crack a smile is a gem. the fact that the band never discusses it in interviews, or even mentions anything about the recording of it is too bad. there were very little even in metal edge when it was being made. i got crack a smile back in 1997 when it became available through a company called buccaneer records in maryland. my buddy told me he ordered it there, and i was able to get a copy too. cost me $40, but it was the best $40 i ever spent. you guys were saying that an issue for you is that crack a smile is too long, but what you didn't mention is that this album only came out in the fashion it did, as the original bootleg of it came with almost the same listing, and capital chose to release all it had in the vaults with it in order to compete with the already released bootlegs. this album was not put out by capital to be marketed, or compete. it was put out to combat the bootlegs of it, and any chance at re-couping the loss. the band had zero input on the cover, the tracks included or not. hollyweird came out on their own label as capitol had a right of refusal, and totally passed.

PBP, is there any band from the glam metal era that made good albums into the 90’s? Great episode nothing sums up the late eighties like poison .

I'd say 92 is the last year that glam bands were still confidently putting out BIG 80s sounding records, '93 is where a lot of em lost their way imo...

warrant made their finest record in 1992. dog eat dog. skid row's subhuman race in 1995 was incredible. bang tango made a killer record in 1994 with love after death. def leppard's slang in 1996 was their best record in my opinion.
