Does anyone have recommendations of rappers from those decades to try? I feel like all of the popular icons today have stupid as hell lyrics that I can't get into (money, sex, drugs, etc.)

@@SuperBravo45 Eric b and rakim were my favorite for the beginning era. 90s is where it started to heat up with the story telling and all. East coast was on fire with Jay z, big L, biggie smalls, krs one a few to name but the list goes on and on. West coast had a more chilled vibe with in the bay and la as well; Warren g, too short. Dr Dre's chronic is a classic and timeless; Let Me Ride still gets plays from me. Hope you enjoy!

I grew up on rock & metal with parents who hated disco. I got into hip hop in the late 80s during H.S. When I was 22 we traveled about an hour to a club we went to a lot. It was disco night! I convinced my friends to stay & we had a blast even though we were way under dressed. I was surprised how many songs sounded familiar.

People started mumbling more in their music after 2017… I think it was future who first started it, but I figured that he just talks like that in real life to without being on drugs, he didn’t always mumble rap because he technically started in 2003 with the dungeon family. Most of the music I heard from him, he raps pretty clear. he also sings in alot of his songs nice and clear.

@@DefKiller90 Soulja chopped off its legs. Auto tuners hit some vital organs. And mumble rappers are smothering it trying to finish the job. Why I think auto tune rappers was the main downfall is because any bum can do it without even needing any gleam of talent. Just find yourself a ghostwriter and you're pretty much set, you don't really even have to establish your own flow and delivery.
