A Craps practice throwing table that’s transportable AND playable like a real full sized casino table…
I’ve been playing craps for decades, but 6 or 7 years ago I decided to become proficient at actually throwing the dice instead of depending on someone else. This table allows me to duplicate the feel and play of a full size craps table and yet it can be disassembled, folded down and transported in a regular sized car trunk. I did not use any plans to put this together, so it doesn’t nest perfectly as one would if complete plans were used. Were I to do it again, besides nesting everything I would reduce the overall dimensions of the table and build it much smaller because my dice rolls have become more accurate over the years. That way it would be even easier to transport. As it is, it’s fairly heavy because of the thickness of the table and that's something I did on purpose to improve the realism factor for the dice when they land on the table surface. The resulting dice "action" closely replicates what one would get on a much larger full-sized table. The most expensive part of putting this together would be buying one sheet of 5/8’s inch high quality (no knot holes) plywood for the table surface, and of course the table layout & green alligator wall. For everything else, I used whatever wood I had on hand. I used a tablesaw, compound miter saw, router with round-over bit and impact screw gun with wood glue to put it all together. Some of the “lumber’” was even dumpster dived from a local home construction site. The table covering or felt lasts around a year and then it needs replacing, which I do when I buy my genuine casino dice. The video does not describe how I throw the dice and I probably won’t be doing a video about that. Should you want to learn more about throwing the dice and/or dice setting, there are several on KZbin who are working that angle and I would encourage you to subscribe to their YT sites. Did you see the iPad cameo shot in the video of a KZbinr who goes by the name of King Dice? His tips can be helpful, just like Bone Thrower and Roll-2-Win. But getting better at throwing the dice is really dependent upon you and how much you are willing to practice, practice, practice. Without that you are at the mercy of Lady Luck and your fellow random shooters OR you could play the slots like most everyone else!
I do not consider the game of Casino Craps to be gambling. To me it is more of a challenge and an athletic endeavor. It takes lots of practice & concentration to repeatedly place a pair of dice 8 or 9’ away in one particular spot on the Craps table. And even if you can do that, there are many other variables that make it nearly impossible to control the dice outcome. In my opinion dice can never be controlled. Influenced maybe, controlled never. If someone or some Craps instructor tells you that dice control is possible, then run as fast as you can in the other direction. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Lastly, gambling is an addictive behavior. It can be just as addictive & perhaps even more financially devastating as any of the other vices people acquire. If you feel there’s even a remote possibility that you may be addicted to gambling, I urge you to contact your state's gamblers addiction hotline. You can get their number by simply looking at any casino advertisement, since it is usually posted in the fine print at the bottom.
Maybe we'll see each other at a table, or sitting next door as I hit that big BUFFALO Gold bonus and almost certainly on the trail!

I've got one similar! It's great for practice! You can throw from any distance you like! I like it brother! Great video

Repetition and regular practice is key. This setup allows me to do that even when camping. Yes, I often flip the throwing station around and do SR1 or 2. Have even tried end shots, just enough to learn they aren’t my thing.

Do you have dimensions or drawings for this? Nice table

Thanks, not pretty but highly functional! No, sorry I do not. Years ago I literally threw the table together from spare materials (hence the chip board side walls). Since this video, I have cut the original table down to reduce weight & size while maintaining the same 1” thick landing zone surface that still accurately duplicates real table action. Current basic table measurements are: 29-1/2 W x 24” D with the patten surface at 22” W x 18” D. Sidewalls are the same height as the alligator wall. I find this size to be perfect, as my tosses have become more accurate over the years. It all folds compactly and is easier to load in my RV, since the weight is also reduced. I hope this helps!

@NoGasWelcomeAboard Is your felt directly ontop of the 5/8 plywood or do you have some kind of padding between the two?

Sorry so long to answer… Have tried several variations. I try to duplicate the bounce and feel of my local casino tables, which are fairly hard with little bounce. First, I use birch plywood as it is harder than standard plywood. Then I experimented with various underlayments. Closest I could get is one or two layers of thin microfiber “felt” under my microfiber patterned top. When I tap my finger on the casinos table, the feels is very similar. When fastening the cover, pay attention to how tight you stretch the material. Too much results in a trampoline effect. Hope this helps…

Not fancy & I'd love to do a real 12' table. But that'd defeat the reasons I built this one - portability & taking it in the motorhome. Good luck with your build!

Can you please add a video doing the assembly. so as to give us a picture of the smaller components ?

or if there is any design plan that you followed.

Working on a modification that will reduce the size of what you see in the video. Newest version will have hard and bouncy options. Shot some video as I was cutting it down and should be up once I get back from Vegas 🙂. Thanks for watching. BTW - no formal design plans, just what’s upstairs 😄

Sorry, I do not sell them. Whipped mine up in a couple days and have since cut it down some so that it is not as heavy when transporting it in the bay of my motorhome.

You should make an instructional video of how you built yours 😁

Andre - Have used table for a couple years. Did not video construction or document it’s fit-together portable design. If I made another, it would be smaller and the pieces would lay flat when broken down. Have been very happy with it because it’s design makes practicing anywhere easy. Might put together a new smaller more compact version, and would certainly draw up some simple plans. If I do, will post those. Thanks for watching and good luck with your Craps “career” 🙂
