I have this headcanon that the pirates were are all mutants created with the evolvo-ray to look for the crystals in the Jet Ski levels during Crash Warped. When the Time Twister was destroyed, they became stranded in that time period, and then they went on to form their own pirate society. Whatever the case, Crash lore can be fun to speculate about, especially considering that Toys for Bob took into account a lot of minor details right down to things like how the Gasmoxians could have plausibly evolved as a real alien species.

The strings are just on-point, beat sharp as ever. Love this track, love this game. When you land in this level for the first time and this music plays that variant of the original Crash 1 theme, you just go "all of my yes" They absolutely nailed the music for this game.

So I learned a cool thing today, the crash 1 melody you are hearing is called a leitmotif; a reoccurring melody that signifies a person or a situation. What's even more beautiful is how Toys For Bob have loads of the songs from the soundtrack where they've added in those leitmotif phrases: bears repeating, cortex castle etc.

This is my favourite song and level in the game. The level doesn't have any bullshit hidden boxes, it looks gorgeous, It reminds me of Crash 1 but also feels really new. and the music is really memorable and beautiful in parts. which honestly there's only 2 Crash 4 tracks I actually remember at the moment, the others aren't bad but quite unmemorable to me personally. I love this one though!

I liked the Octopus Pirate enemies in this world. They were well-placed patrollers, and one of very few enemies who wouldn't just facetank your spin attack. Those guys in fact can deflect your spin attack (As well as Tawna's Hookshot). Had that happen to me once, when jump-spinning at one. Coco bounced backwards as a result (Undamaged, but got knocked back anyway). Still kept on solid ground, but I was like "Alright, you can take one of those on the chin, more power to ya. I'll let ya be" and just jumped over him instead. The hidden gems can sod off, though. Or at least the N. Verted ones. The regular ones aren't so bad on this and the alternate version with Dingodile (That He Blows). But the N. Verted ones are just...yuck. The N. Verted Hidden Gem on Booty Calls is at the split-fork path. You take the fork that has enemies on it, and midway across the barrel ride to there, the gem is on the right, tucked behind some scenery crates. You can just barely see it. I don't know if you can get to it from the front side. I tried it once and met an invisible barrier. I got to it from behind. There's a Question Crate and a Fire Crate hovering above the water. I did a big bounce off the Question Crate while pulling backwards as far as I could. Also needs a double jump at the top of your first one to get it. Then you gotta time your jump back towards the Fire Crate so you don't get cooked. Thar He Blows' N. Verted Hidden Gem isn't as bad though, but balls to the guy who hid it behind the doorframe of the gate that gets cannonballed by Dingodile (The one at the end of the grind segment on Crash/Coco's side).
