This series of videos are the best I've seen on KZbin for introducing a technically complex subject.

I use one of these machines. The way they greased the tap as it went in was pretty cool... I use a brush :D

I've been waiting for new videos. I like the way you covered the G81 command. It would be great to see a lot more of those covered. Like, ramp-in and helical boring modals, etc. Classy videos, though.

Thank you so much for such a brief but informative series of videos, can i ask you a very big favour, I have a very musical ear, everytime I try to listen to the info, my ear wonders off to the music track, is it possible at all to have the same without the music.!!!, please please please.

I agree, however Sol's gloves in this video are only nitrile. I don't think they pose much risk since they tear very easily.

what kind of job do you have to do to get to play with one of these?
@astaschak12 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you buy, you can get a cheap chinise vertical knee mill for 5-10 thousand but if you want quality your gonna have to dig deep my friend. Machining is not a cheap hobby/profession. We have Sharp brand mills and lathes at my vocational school and theyre small cheap ones for $7000 and they'd be good for home use, good for small to medium sized and medium duty work.
@astaschak12 жыл бұрын
Umm, if you take care of them and use them properly, Then yes they will be good machines. They'll do just fine for home use, at school we put them through hell but sometimes we have to if the bridgeports are taken up. The Sharp mills are better than the lathes in my opinion, I would try to find an older used bridgeport series II mill and a nardini manual lathe. They wont be as nice but will be about the same price for a decent one and will give you just as good quality if it was cared for.

I met a machinist who lost his finger wearing a glove on a bridgeport. DO NOT WEAR GLOVES WHILE MACHINING . same goes for rings and watches and long sleeves.

@hgfjtdjhtd687369876 it is a canned cycle used to drill multiple holes without having to code the depth at every holes. I use G81 for spot drilling but if your hole is deeper than its diameter, you should use a G83 for peck drilling with a retract that break the chip.

A reamer in a drill chuck and you didn't even sweep it in? Please don't teach this eyeball and shim crap. Put it in a collet and sweep it. Also, don't say "crash" in the shop.
