So you can make and throw a paper airplane and it will fly through the sky so long as it has forward momentum and therefore air flowing over the wings. Your paper airplane has no engine, no flaps, and no instruments but yet it only crashes when it either stalls or runs out of the forward momentum you have provided to it by throwing it. If your instruments fail and all your engines fail on a powered airplane but you still have your wings, you simply must find a good place to land but it's not going to necessarily be a crash because, so long as you have both wings, you can glide in a similar fashion to a paper airplane so long as you use whatever altitude you have to descend at such a rate where you always have enough air flowing past your wings. The only reason you would crash in such a situation is if you got confused about where you were in space, which does happen sometimes, but you don't just fall out of the sky if you lose your engines and your instruments. Even if you lose your engines, you probably have some source of back up power, such as a ram air turbine that you can lower into the wind of your forward flight and power your basic instruments. Lots of things have to go catastrophically wrong for a plane to crash.

The first "disaster" movie was truly a disaster. I've seen it all when Sabato, Jr. is a hero TWO times in one flick. And poor Michael Pare continues to be an "actor" that will never win an Oscar. Let's see what happens in the next one. I watched-listened to this second one mostly. Both Priestly and Diamonds, as much work as both have done (in a lot of B- rated movies, must have been desperate for a paycheck to make this mess and another one that won't get either closer to an Oscar). Everyone needs a paycheck fellas, but come on.

So many problems with the first movie. Three of the most glaring are: - How did the air pressure suddenly stabilize with a window blown out? - Why does no one need or use the oxygen masks at that altitude (36,000 feet + 5,000 feet higher for the storm = 41,000 ft) at almost 8 miles above the earth? You need oxygen at 10,000 to 14,000 feet. - And why is no one cold at that altitude (minus 71 degrees Fahrenheit)? And it only goes downhill from there. It doesn't make sense. Overall just a bad B movie. Stuff like this ruins the story...for me at least. The second movie was much better quality than the first...acting and storyline. After watching it on the heels of that first one, it almost seemed like an academy award winner. 😆
