I’m 73 and this song still moves me. It takes me back to the years I was a youth pastor and was still teaching. It was one of my on the road songs. It was kind of a life theme song for me. I played it while driving. The car seemed to travel in a time warp just cruising toward some not identified goal.

You're correct in your observation. By the early 90's the music industry was desperate for new sounds, so they were willing to give a broader range of acts a chance at success. It went off the radio as new stuff came out and then started coming back again many years later when for some reason I listened to it and didn't change the channel. I'm a dude born in the late 90s who grew up in the 2000s and 2010s. Much of the music I first fell in love with were made in the 90s, but obviously I didn't experience the culture of the decade and its sound; I'm just a music snob. But I've never heard this song until I stumbled on this video by complete accident. I keep coming back to it, and it induces such a nostalgia and a sweet melancholy. There's something special about it; the relatability a lot of us share in the comments I think is a strong symptom of that.
