Capers are good anywhere you would normally use pickles. Burgers, hot dogs, Bolognese (instead of olives)... love them. (Still dig pickles too though, especially when freshly harvested from their native jars.)

I love that she’s broken down the science to a level that is accessible not only to younger students, but also adults like me who have been out of school for a while and are a little intimidated by re-learning the science. In the summer I like to make a medly of tomatoes, cucumbers, and sometimes olives with a light vinaigrette. It's my favorite fruit salad.

My biochem class in college would teach about the difference process plants go through without saying what it meant to the plant. So seeing how plants grow is enjoyable

Brussel sprouts are the lateral buds on the stem, that would be at the base of the leaf. Cabbage is the 'whole plant' with the stem being basically reduced to nothing and the leaves maxed out and bred to stay bundled. Right? Fun fact: if you leave cabbage in the ground to its second year, the head with open up and grow a stalk from the center, with flowers at the top

4:35 I loved the little fact I learned about adaptation of leaves. Here in Arizona the native plants all have tiny leaves. Even the big Palo Verde and Mesquite trees have little tiny leaves like you might see on a fern. It's a way for the plants to avoid losing too much water through them because of big surface area's. Big wide leaves like Maple and such would lose tons of water evaporating from the leaves here.

Giggling a LOT at the bite into the onion at the end. The outer peel is definitely not the good part, and a RED onion is one of the stronger flavors. BUT!! I know three people (all related) who do exactly that: eat onions the way other folks eat apples! Also cool to learn that onions ARE NOT ROOTS, because I sure thought bulbs were roots. So already off to a fabulous start! And this host has insane energy - looking forward to the next episode, y'all!

With recreational being passed in so many states (like here in RI), I cannot recommend enough that you look into growing cannabis if you want to learn more about gardening/plants/botany. Not only do you get free medicine, it's a fast growing plant, robust, and the tricks you learn growing it can be directly translated to growing a ton of fruits and veggies. People often call it "growing tomatoes" because the two are so similar lol

Brussels sprouts and cabbage ARE a bunch of tightly packed leaves - tightly packed around a lateral meristem and the apical meristem, respectively! Think about a flower bud, tightly packed and ready to spring open - different plant organ, but same idea.
