Note: When we were discussing dissolved oxygen levels, the bar graph is mistakenly labelled as pH levels. The label should instead be Dissolved Oxygen (ppm). Sorry about that!

Please correct the label on what should be "oxygen ppm". Just an editorial comment will do without the need to re-upload the video. The fact that it is currently labeled as 'pH Levels' will confuse many future environmental engineers!

As an environmental engineer I can't blame the people behind the project, we looked at this example at school, modern projects are so complicated that many professionals need to be involved, especially in government related projects. Let's learn from this and never repeat such terrible project.

Thanks for the information nicely explained. Can I suggest you make videos specifically on water systems obtaining clean water. Maybe mentioning human waste and treatment high nitrate concentrations/ algal blooms . The estrogen changing fish gender was interesting. A specific video on air pollution causes and obtaining clean air . A specific one on waste management / clean land. This was a nice overview and the initial example of the Flint water system were interesting. People learning from mistakes.

No they used chemicals to treat the water. After treatment they needed to restore the PH back to a neutral state, they did not. They also did not add a chemical that protects the older iron and lead pipes. Rather disappointed they got this so wrong. Since a sister channel with the Green brothers got it right just a few weeks ago.

Thermal and radioactive pollution should be considered as well. Cooling Towers and ponds affect the temperature and chemistry of many natural waters with their discharge. Radioactive particles both particulate and gaseous must be monitored as well allowed to decay sufficiently (standpipes as an example for gases) so as not to endanger health or the environment.

Wow, great idea to do an introduction to environmental engineering, but the video attempts to cover WAY too many topics and ends up making hash of most of them. (As others have noted, there are some errors.) It would be better to cover just a few topics in more detail as examples of the discipline of environmental engineering. I do not want to be too critical, as I am a big fan of the Crash Course series.

The estrogen comment is interesting but needs more explanation. I think this it is partly due to the contraceptive pill and connected to our waste water sewage systems, but it could also be related to animal production.

*< Wonders if Patreon contributions should be stopped in protest of too much blatantly inaccurate animation lately, or if Patreon contributions should be increased so Crash Course can pay Thought Cafe to hire more animators and loosen deadlines. >* *Seriously, guys. Visuals are important, and incorrect visuals can have a counterproductive effect on learning. While that misplaced pH meter was so blatantly wrong that it shouldn't have confused that many people, there have been many moments in this series where I've been drawn to wonder if the animators were just left to imagine what they were supposed to draw based on the script and a storyboard or whatever.* *Just as I am a bit shaky on the correct words to express where I assume the animation process is breaking down, artists generally have only a superficial idea of how the physical world works. They need to be given explicit sketches or other models of what they're supposed to portray, or misleading impossibilities will creep into their portrayals. This is (arguably) acceptable in media intended purely for entertainment, but... in a series devoted to portraying how things work? Yikes.* *Perhaps this also ties into my complaint that bundling "engineering" into one series is a bit over-generalized, akin to having a single "Crash Course Arts and Music" series instead of the plethora of art-related series that already exist. If the expert reviewing the production is, say, a mechanical engineer, they'll do a good job of weeding out errors in the script and animation with respect to their own discipline, but, honestly, they're not much more likely to catch errors about other disciplines of engineering than if they were reviewing the final cut of Crash Course Theatre. And perhaps if I shared a discipline with the reviewer, I wouldn't complain so much because those errors would also sail over my own head. :D*
