This is what makes buying an incredible car like an Aston terrifying. The guys at Works are incredible. I did a private tour on my 50th birthday. The cost for these restorations is a mouthwatering number. But the sound of these cars makes you tingle and you can almost forgive AM the cost! The DBS or the Vanquish S are the two most desirable cars ever (well a DB5 in the lounge would be nice)!

I really enjoyed that, it makes you realise the unseen cowboy work that some do. There’s no substitute for experience like Steve’s, it’s something that must be passed on to the next generation. My first car was a MK3 Escort, together with a Haynes Manual, I could tinker with most of the car myself, but you couldn’t dream of doing that today without a workshop and knowledge like Steves.

This is really interesting and very much like my experience on a relatively high-mile V8 Vantage I recently purchased. I bought it sight-unseen from a dealer in Arizona. I had a PPI performed at a local exotic car specialist in the area before I closed the deal of course... he called out some issues, gave me some advice on what repairs might be necessary and what they might cost, but overall gave the car a very clean bill of health. After the car was delivered, I brought it in for service at an extremely reputable Aston specialist in New York. Plan was to do the fluids, do the belt and pulleys, and remedy a few other small issues my original PPI flagged. First thing they did was perform a thorough inspection themselves, and WOW did they find a lot more than the original inspection. They found body work all over the car -- some of which was of questionable quality -- along with several additional mechanical and cosmetic issues that needed attention. I was shocked but really appreciated the meticulousness of their work. So what I thought was going to be a $1500 minor service ended up being a $6500 refresh. But I'm really glad for the work. Now I can drive my car with confidence because I know there are no longer any hidden issues. People assume that because these cars are so expensive and rare they've all lived extremely pampered lives with fastidious owners who treat them to the best of the best when it comes to service and maintenance. That's just not the case at all.

Is this an 06/07 car? Seems like a bit of wear and tear for the mileage? But maybe not for the age? I got my Boxster inspected before I bought it. Nice to see carvertical sponsoring the show. I import cars and I always run the cars through their system. They've saved my ass atleast 10 times. Example; I found a seemingly mint 6 month old Kia XCeed but as it turns out it had a nasty hit and had a damage estimate of over 20k euros. These damage estimates aren't always correct but atleast I knew something had happened in the past. Since we don't sell cars without a clean report I called off the deal.

I know how you feel.. I've been in a same sort of situation.. Bought a car which I was really in love with (mistake 1, don't fall in love when buying a car) .. later at home I brought the car away for a full service.. a few hours later the garage called me to please come over because they wanted to show me something. So I went and they showed me, just like Steve did, all the points that where wrong with this car. I ended up having to straigthen the car chassis and lot's of work to even get it in a drivable and safe state. Lost a lot of money there ...

'As the previous owner of a DB9, I can say it's a sad indictment on the brand that Aston even offer a Works 'recommissioning programme on a 2010 car. A lot of the issues on these cars are just manufacturing defects, occur with the gentlest of use and show up very early in their life. You simply do not see quality control issues like these from other manufacturers.

It's scary the kind of stuff you can find on cars like these when you do a real comprehensive inspection. Regardless, I can't wait to see it roll out of the shop in that gorgeous green color from the JWW DBX. I wish I could do the same with my V8 Vantage, but I recently found out it's a one-of-one spec (the only Vantage in the world that was made with the 4.7L engine and painted Speed Yellow; the other eleven cars had the 4.3), so I no longer want to change the color. I guess the remedy is going to have to be to get another one. Shucks.
