Hey Grampa, i use gorrila white glue for mine. It gets in those crefaces really well but you have to sit by it and wipe off the surface cause as it swells it trys to ooz out the sides but long as you get it before it starts to get tacky you cant even tell there was any glue in the first place. And that type glue is so light weight

Sorry, but flying the viper now for 2 seasons with more than 100 flights. But the landing speed was to low and plane stalled. Better land it without using the flaps, and keep the speed higher, it’s a jet and not a propeller plane 😊. Nevertheless the flight looks great, but keep the corner speed higher, to reduce the risk for a stall. Wish you many happy flights and landings!

When you have a cross wind, or even a gusty headwind, always use a little extra speed on final approach. On high performance aircraft, you fly the aircraft down to touch-down point. On aircraft like a Cessna, you do a flair as you touch-down, but not on a high performance aircraft. (I'm just getting into RC aircraft, but have over 1000 hours as PIC in real airplanes.)

Don't feel bad GG. I had my cirrus out for it's 3rd flight. I was stoked because I upgraded my tx from the dx6e to the nx8. Had a beautiful flight. Was coming in bleeding off speed and full landing flaps. Cought the gear on the bean field that I have to fly over to land. Good thing was it hit the bean plants. Broke my prop and stripped out the nose gear/ rudder servo. So I was like ok no big deal. Got home to order my replacement parts from horizon hobby and low and behold on back order till December. I found them elsewhere but for 3 times the price. So that bird is in the hanger until.spring! All in the hobby lol.

Hey GPG, you mentioned earlier that there was almost no wind, and whatever wind there was, it was coming from the east. That type of weather pattern spooks me just for that reason alone. Not from the direction it comes from, but the fact that if you do not remeber to land from the opposite direction, those surprise gusts will bite you when you least expect it. It sucks that you crashed and I'm sure she will be in the air again soon. Great channel, I like that you keep it simple direct and to the point.

At 2:34 you came delta close to a wingtip stall... I notice you like "tight turns" with this EDF, it will bite you. There's a good reason why it's called the VIPER! EDIT: Back in repair mode once again, with you! This will be my 2nd fuselage for my Viper 90mm in 2 years. I just keep making the same rookie mistake of underpowering during tuns, the airspeed under the lower wing in bank falls too quickly to recover and by then I'm in a spiral looking at the ground. Anyhow, love the hobby! Off to my Avanti 80 V2 for a spell...

That was not the wind, that was a classic tip stall, done it dozens of times myself, what you need to do is apply throttle as soon as it starts to roll and go around. Look at the flag at the end of the strip, it’s barely moving, for the wind to pick up that left wing it would have had to come from directly below. As for fixing, 30 min epoxy does the job for me every time. I’ve broke the wing on my Habu right in half and used epoxy and it’s strong as ever. I also reinforced across the break with several carbon fibre strips but that was only because the break was from leading edge to trailing edge and actually broke the fibreglass spar right in half.

Tough breaks, unfortunately crashes are part of the hobby and I don’t let them discourage me like they used to anymore as I’m sure you don’t either. I consider my pilot skills to be on par with where you are at, however, I have never flown an EDF. In your opinion will I need to go through the ranks with a Habu and so on and so forth or do you think I could jump straight into a viper 90-F16 80 with a cautious learning curve? My ego says that since I am confident on prop planes I should be fine with an EDF but I have no experience to base that decision on. I value your opinion but Am I being naïve?
@IJustGotHere Жыл бұрын
The Viper handles the best and will be easier, maybe even more so than the Habu's. I'm not confident with the F16 yet. Just remember that EDF'S and any jet likes speed. Landings always require throttle up. My prop landings tend to be throttle off, so that is why I say that. 👍
@mattmiller7494 Жыл бұрын
So you think it’s doable but you’d recommend the Viper over the F16? I appreciate the response and the advice. I have a Flightline P38 lightning (great plane BTW) that requires some speed to land but I imagine the F16 would require even more than that, the Viper really seems as if it is a normal flying plane that just happens to be an EDF. Thanks again Gary!

Just an observation - you mentioned roughly at 7:39 minute mark “Zero Throttle’” and you had not touched down yet - rule of thumb with jets in many tutorials ( I’m sorry I cant speak from personal experience yet - but soon I hope ) is that you don’t zero throttle until wheels have touched down completely … this could have contributed to the crash at the end. Just an observation . Cheers 😊

Thanks 👍 I believe so too. I was trying to get it on the ground as it was starting to travel to far away. But you are right, the stall occurred because of lack of thrust.

my viper 90 dropped a wing just like that when I got the nose too high on landing. Your learning to fly edf’s using a plane that is too expensive. Taking off on grass is not good for the LG. I fly with pilots who fly edf’s 5 out of 7 days every week. If a plane calls for 6S they change the system to 8S. They never fly or land on grass. We fly at an elementary school parking lot adjacent to a field. They have more EDF jets than my GF has shoes, LOL. Land into the wind unless you have quick reflexes. Habu and the FlyFan K8 good jets to fly before those 90mm power houses. Entry level 90mm jets are the FreeWing F22 and the FreeWing DH Venom. One of my flying buddy’s said, “if my wife can have 100 pairs of shoes he can have 100 planes. They both ordered the new KingAir Twin From HK. On super hot days they bring their prop driven warbirds to the field, no EDFs. BTW, the FreeWing F-4 is one beautiful plane and flys well.
